10% Pay Rise

FFS, we are pushing bits of paper through a hole in a door and knocking on said door with a parcel, why is that a 30k job? It's not like we're medical staff.

I understand that it seems simple. But theres more to it than that.
Ur working in ALL weather conditions.
Most of the new starts are coming in and see what they have to do and the conditions they're doing it in and aren't sticking around.
15 years ago we were about £5 above minimum wage and that was enough for ppl to stick out the job.
Because no where else would pay that level of money for a non skilled job. So the job became a job for life.
Unfortunatly that isn't the case anymore. At the moment old contracts are 11%(£3000) down and 18%(£5000) down next April.
New starters are gonna be near 40%(£9400) down from April next year compared to what we used to be paid.
So when they're working in a storm they ask themselves is it worth when u can work anywhere else for near the same pay.

It's technically an unskilled job, but it is certainly not something that ANYONE can do.

We've aways worked in various weather's . What made the job was the ridiculous amount of easy overtime . Simply meant you bought a house a nice car and a few holidays a year. No one wants the overtime now as the rounds are too big , most posties are reaching retirement age , once you reach 60 you'll get some pension , overtimes rates are rubbish, youngsters don't seem to want to work never mind overtime. The job has totally changed.

10% payrise is about £260m extra a year.
The proposed uso changes could save a maximum of £600m per year. The money is there. Its just a matter of fighting for it.

I don’t know where this has come from, certainly wasn’t announced yesterday. Cwu has listed all that RM will have to pay over the next year or so and with that in mind, it’s doubtful that we’ll get anywhere near that. I hope I’m wrong.

Now it could be they might be telling the truth, in which case i will stand corrected...... but really tell the truth, you didn't really believe them did you?

From my time in RM, neither the company or the CWU seem bothered to sort anything in time for April. The CWU rarely mentioned it until about July, and by the time September came along the average postie was more interested in the "back pay" than they were in the actual deal on offer.

I don’t know where this has come from, certainly wasn’t announced yesterday. Cwu has listed all that RM will have to pay over the next year or so and with that in mind, it’s doubtful that we’ll get anywhere near that. I hope I’m wrong.

On a day to day basis you are dealing with time management/pressure, adverse weather conditions and the physicality.
On a long term basis you are dealing with probable long term adverse health outcomes if you stick around many years and the 'grind' which is a subjective mental stress.
As much as Simon Thompson was irritating and trolling when he said we are professional athletes - there is in fact something in that when you consider we walk the equivalent of 2 marathons [or close as] EVERY week.
