We have an ambition to get to 35 hours but we only ever agreed to the principle.

The reduction of each hour was linked to further change initiatives.

Royal Mail believed that 34.40 minutes actually work time plus paid meal reliefs was too low hence why they imposed new entrants full time at 40 hours without paid meal reliefs.

Again it is based on what is more of a priority pay or a shorter working week depending on how much of an hour Is absorbed within a duty every hour off the working can cost 70 to 100 million.

Plus what change are we prepared to accept for the reduction.
Martin, you have said that there will be no compulsory redundancies without a fight and anyone who wants to stay at Royal Mail will be able to but what about fire and rehire? After all that would still be keeping to the “you will have a job if you want one” but with emphasis on the “if you want one” i.e you will be offered new terms and if you don’t want them then adios

Will you treat this the same as a compulsory redundancy - well it’s really the same anyway - if they try to get legacy contracted staff onto the “new contract”?

I dont think Kretinsky is stupid enough not to realise the PR disaster making tens of thousands of posties compulsory redundant would be after taking over the 'British institution' but I think if they tried to get everyone on the same inferior contract that could be spun differently and nobody outside of here would bat an eyelid if we arent careful.
Reading between the lines, if there is a push for a 4 day week or 9 day fortnight with a USO reduction, that makes the time out on delivery 6 hours plus to fill the hours. Be that a hybrid 3 hours walking then 3 hours packet driving, or a straight 6 hours walking doing letters. I don't know many people who would sign up to either.

why the rush to a 35hr week?
all it does is we earn the same money every week bar a few pence and still do the same workload!
if you negotiated a decent overtime rate then fair enough
the way you want us is doing exactly the same workload on 39hrs but only paid 35hrs....work faster & harder!
hence our basic take home pay becomes less year after year when the cost of living rises even further
This is such a bonkers opinion, would you rather do 39hrs or 35 hrs for the same pay , complete no brainer. If Royal Mail don’t want to adjust duties to cater for the change, that’s on them , who actually cares.
our ft pay as only gone up £72pw in 6 years since we dropped to 38hrs
if i was still on 39hrs at todays rate i'd be earning an extra £27pw for basically just the same workload
"do overtime?" yeah, but what when they stop giving any out, which happens from time to time
i want a regular payrise in my pocket, not just up the rate but reduce the contracted hrs so i stay on the same money

We're needing an extra £50 a week.
I believe it can be done.
I'd support the union for a bigger payrise like that.
Don't try u don't get. 👍

In this CWU Live Dave Ward said Ofcom did not want to fine Royal Mail anymore as RM is loss making....

Well, Ofcom have just fined Royal Mail £10.5million.

So why did Dave Ward claim Ofcom didn't want to fine a loss making company anymore? was he mistaken?

Norris that is not what we said the current conversations between Of Com And Royal Mail have been about you keep failing quality and Royal Mail saying we are broke and needing USO reform.

For a company which has a 8 billion turnover and got fined by Of Com 5 million last year this 10 million fine is still relatively low considering only 2 1st class letters out of 3 get delivered on time.

Plus in the scheme of things the government decision to increase employers national insurance contributions mean that this will cost them 120 million and yet for 5th year running they have failed quality they only get fined 10 million.

Problem is we all know the USO changes are going to be agreed early next year so RM can just take the files on the chin and start afresh next year, problem is who's really investigating if the proposed changes will work, as there's no way posties can deliver double mail on the same sized round everyday which Tony seems to be suggesting.

Dave Ward must have been in my dreams then. It might have not of been in the CWU Live I referred to, but he definitely said something along the lines of 'Ofcom do not want to fine a loss making company'. Maybe he said that in my dreams or nightmares and I have just imagined it.

In theory the following applies

Only 50% of addresses will get a delivery of all mail each day Monday -Friday. However on the days this happens the workload , call rate and span will be longer so you will need more hours in the operation.

On the days an address does not get all the mail delivered they will get 1st Class and parcels delivered. As 1st class now only accounts for circa 700 million items per year then the call rate is modelling significantly less than when you deliver 1st class ,.DSA, 2nd class , D2D etc.

On Saturdays only 1st class and parcels go out by van.

So assumptions can be made hence a method change being deployed.
So we'll all have double mail every day on bigger duties.

Good, great, super, well done, thanks for that.

What does this method change entail for non-drivers Martin? Is van sharing continuing? Could you shed any light please.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

It's in the same place as "expanding the role of postal workers"

Wish Walsh and Co would listen to what the members want and not decide for us!

The last 2 deals the Union have made have been a disaster and a complete sell out for their members. When I hear these Cwu guys talk they just sound like royal mail managers. Don't trust them at all.

Here's what people want

1.a good pay rise that takes us further away from minimum wage not closer to it.

2.Achievable rounds were post and parcels get cleared everyday.

3. No 2 teir workforce, same conditions for all.

4.propper sick pay not stat, as job is physically demanding.

5.Good redundancy terms not that 9months pay nonsense.

Ward and Co are trying to pull the wool over our eyes offering us every other Saturday off (but having to deliver all 1st class mail on day you are in which is completely retarded as you might as well just take it all then. Well all or nothing.) Who cares people signed up to job knowing we would have to sacrifice Saturdays.

Secondly it's obvious the only escape for Royal Mails predicament and becoming a good nationally treasured company again was/is

1. Going under, with us continuing strikes (2023) and rebuilding from scratch (the government would have saved us, you falled for Thompsons big bluff)
2. This time don't negotiate with management (Kreninsky), go all out trying to get government trying to re nationalise royal mail!

As admirable as it sounds to have new entrants levelled up, that would mean everyone having to work Sundays from time to time. If it came to pass that old contracts get a 5 day week Mon-Fri as long as new entrants work every second Saturday and every third Sunday, would the union push for that?

Seems to be lots of firm plans for what to deliver on what day, but zero information on possible shift patterns, will all duties be solo etc. Why is that?

Hopefully they expand the role of some MPU workers into delivery at some point next year :thumbup
