Unless no one else was involved in an accident, that would never work. Also the insurance company would likely reject the claim, and if the police ever got involved, you'd be done for driving without insurancepostmanpatscat2 wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024, 14:21Use some common sense.fb1969 wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024, 13:45Here we go again.
Commuting on a car insurance policy usually means "to and from a fixed place of employment". You can add level 1 business insurance that will cover you travelling to different locations. Some companies include it anyway (that has been the case for me with Aviva and LV) and some will add it for a fairly small fee - it would not include "commercial travelling" which would be what a travelling salesman would have, or "hire and reward" which would be taxis and even couriers.
The only correct answer would be the one you get by asking your insurance company before you do it. Different companies have different T&Cs in the same way that some allow you to drive other cars on a third party basis, but others don't.
If he had an accident on his way to another delivery office, when ringing insurance you would just say you wasn't in work that day and going out for the day somewhere else... Wich is perfectly fine under 'social pleasure'. Whatever it is

At least I have common sense, you obviously don't.postmanpatscat2 wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024, 14:21
Use some common sense.

What if they end up in hospital so can't phone their insurance. Police attend and submit a report saying they were in RM uniform when the accident happened at 7am. Not really social, domestic and pleasure is it.
You say use common sense then suggest someone commits fraud.

Re: What happens if you cant get in because of snow?
What's clear here is a few people don't know what type of insurance is required and what isn't, and that it can vary with different insurers.
Admiral is one insurer where you have to specify you're using your car for commuting on top of the usual social, domestic & pleasure. But with others it's included.
For Admiral, commuting is classed as driving to one place of work in a day. So that's fine for going to a different DO as a one off if it's snowing.
If you're going to multiple different sites on a daily basis, then you'll need business insurance.
If you're a courier using your own vehicle, business use is not enough and you'll need insurance called 'carriage of goods for hire and reward'.

Make sure you take out the correct insurance for your usage.

If you take a day unpaid, there's nothing to make up. Your manager is bullshitting you.mattandbenny wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024, 07:22Had 4 inches snow today so cant get in. I know obviously you wont get paid, but manager also mentioned you have to make that day back up another time, is that right? They said i can either use it as a days AL or take a days unpaid & work a 6 day week another time to make it up. Can you not just lose a days pay and move on?
Been here years so am on the old contract if that makes any difference.

When the other party involved in the accident is asked for a witness statement by their insurer and says you were wearing your work uniform, your own insurer will then “avoid” or repudiate your claim in its entirety, cancel your insurance, put a fraud/liar marker against your name, etc. You will then find no insurance company will touch you. The standard question all insurers ask is “Have you EVER had insurance cancelled, invalidated or had special terms imposed?” Worse than a drink-drive conviction (which at least drops off your licence after 11 years). Just not worth it, mate. Yes, use some common sense - make full disclosure and tell the truth to your insurer or take the consequences.

Re: What happens if you cant get in because of snow?
I had to add business use to policy to drive to day job in the office and part time job in Royal Mail. That's with Admiral. On my other car woth different underwriter, I declared, that I will only use it for Royal Mail job and don't need business use, just standard commuting.Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024, 16:14What's clear here is a few people don't know what type of insurance is required and what isn't, and that it can vary with different insurers.

Unless you want to do it that way, but you can't be forced to.
