Look there will be no compulsory redundancies so no one will be forced out there will be a job for everyone regardless of whether your a new entrant or a non driver. The union will not agree or support the USO change without this commitment and it cannot work without our support and that of our 100 thousand membership.

Good man Martin, great bit of rhetoric, all sounds very promising, i doubt it will have any impact on our future.
I wish this union would stick to what we pay you to do and look after us, anything to do with the company doesn't interest me and most of the workforce i fancy. It might be where we work but i care as much about the company as they care about me and my fellow workers.

I have been into 65 different delivery offices this year across all the UK , meeting with our members and talking to them.

Unlike some of the social media platforms where people can post anonymously the vast majority of our members are always respectful and ask roughly the same questions:

They are :

Is my job secure ?
My walk and workload is unachievable?
Will my start and finish times get better or worse ?
What is happening to pay ?
What is happening to resourcing ?
Tracked being prioritised
Will the take over makes things better or worse
What is the impact of the USO
New entrants terms
Sick pay
Why did we reach the agreement

So all of these issues are what the union is tackling under the USO talks and indeed the takeover talks.

I am the only DGSP / Officer who is willing to come on here and one of two who come on social media to engage with members and I have been on here since 2007 on and off but sadly there are to many trolls who don’t want to engage on here unlike you but just want to make snide and unsubstantiated comments but hey you only have to look at X formerly twitter to understand the way these platform are heading.

This site use to be a real opportunity to have a discussion/ debate / disagreement now the majority of the good posters have gone and there is an echo chamber developing which TBT and Postman I believe never visualised when he first set it up.

It is a good job I have a thick skin and I know that the agreement which we reached whilst not popular was 100% better than the alternative option.

Moving from 39 to 52 wouldn’t amount to much more financially because you’d get taxed on the 7-8k over the 30k mark.

We want to level up new entrants terms

We want to reduce the job losses from USO

We want to remove SSP from sick leave.

We want to increase VR terms.

All of the above has a price , yesterday the company announced that they lost 67 million and the national insurance rise is going to cost Royal Mail 120 million roughly the equivalent of 2% pay rise.

This is not some kind of football fantasy team , all the above are significant carry significant costs.

Even if we could get more than a years money for Voluntary redundancy why would a union do that ? As you have to balance rewarding individuals who want to leave with rewarding those who are staying.

At the end of the day there is only one pot of money and you therefore have to prioritise where you put it. Increasing VR to 12 months adds approximately another £7000 onto the VR terms for an individual.

Going back to the subject of the USO change if the idea is to have duties that can be comfortably completed with a higher call rate on the days all items are due to be delivered then surely that would require a revision as such to enable that to be possible, also obviously different duty structures would need to be introduced for the parcels/1st class days, to me that sounds like a revision I suppose you could call it a change of method but equally it requires work to formulate duty structures to enable it.

Have we got a list of these 39 offices ? In a strange way I hope our place is on it as there's absolutely no chance of our manager planning anything more complicated than who's turn it is to go to Greggs so someone would have to be brought in to sort it properly, or is that just hope over experience again ?

With respect Martin , you have to see the last agreement was so bad that the comments you read on here are fully justified, we came out of it with nothing and you constantly telling us it could have been worse will not change that .I personally voted against the last agreement and I hope your optimism this time round actually delivers something positive that I can get behind but we are negotiating from such a low bar that anything will be better than last time surely.

They offered a £ bung on top last time so £7k isn’t much of an improvement. Most people I know would be happy with no pay rise and a return to the old sick terms. I know loads of people that attend work ill now since it was changed. It was a disgrace any trade union agreed to that. I can’t see it will never get changed back either because of the ridiculous agreed threshold.
