Special delivery Collection

Post by VitesseFan »

Hi I paid for a special delivery on Ebay then got a collection organised for the next day. Today I get an email saying they couldn't collect because no one was home, This is a lie! I was here all day! I actually saw a postman on our road and a van at the end of the road but no one knocked! Why would they do this? I have mobility issues and cannot get to the Post Office so rely on collection. Has anyone else had this issue? :no no

Firstly you need to put an official complaint into Royal Mail. On this site we won't be able to give a specific answer to your issue. Customer collections
are one of the things that we are supposed to NOT fail. So if there was a failure it needs to be investigated by Royal Mail through the delivery office manager.

The manager will be able to see if the post person who was allocated the pick up actually attended your address
(from the GPS data on the device we carry).

If they did attend the address could it be your doorbell isn't working? Battery powered ones fail rapidly in the cold weather.
Battery powered Amazon ring door bells (and other makes) are not immune to this. But we can't tell if your doorbell is working or not.
I've actually had abuse off customers when I've knocked when I can't hear the doorbell ringing, so other posties who've had this
experience too may just rely on the doorbell and not knock. I'm not saying this is the case in your situation but it does happen.

Also if there was a failure in the downloading of the collections data onto the device then the collection wouldn't appear on the device - however the manager in the office should have the standard backup plan of printing off the collections onto a piece of paper (if the system is available)
and notifying the postie concerned.

Sorry for your experience and the above are just my thoughts. As I said the only thing you can do is put in a complaint. Have you rebooked the collection too?

I had exactly the same thing happen today (well, for a delivery). I waited all day then just before 3pm the tracking said "Delivery Attempted - No Answer". This is not true. Doorbell camera doesn't lie either. A neighbour says this has happened to him this week also.

Used Special Delivery as it's a 40th birthday present for tomorrow (Thurs), but likewise I can't get to the delivery office (I don't drive, it's miles away), so now I won't get it until Friday at my nearby post office. Complete farce. Very stressful. And a waste of money.

I don't blame the posties though. I feel they're really overworked - the whole "Delivery Attempted - No Answer" lie must come from above.

No postie is that overworked they can't delivery a special delivery so it's unlikely that instruction comes from above, they probably couldn't be bothered delivering it as meant waiting for you to answer your door and then signing for it.

To be honest, I doubt it even left the DO. We had two lots of post come round today. Delivery definitely not attempted; no red card was left.

Actually you say that; my nearby neighbour has had the same thing happen recently. Nothing shows up, then late in the day it said delivery attempted. No red card either. And it got sent back to the sender because he wasn't home the next day (when again, no red card).

Both the posties I saw today are young lads, one I've never seen before. I'm going to politely ask tomorrow. I'm waiting on a "signed 1st class" letter for a hospital appointment that was sent on Friday :arrrghhh
