Just quick question,
Will my manager will be informed if I apply for different positions within Royal Mail ?
Please don't take me wrong, I'm quite ok with my current postman job ( although is new contract) however looking like RM pushing for late delivery and this is deal breaker for me. I found different jobs offering early hours wondering if my manager will be notified if I apply. Of course to be fair I will inform my manager with appropriate notice about job changing if I be accepted but fir now I don't need drama.... Please advise.

Sorry not a definitive answer but maybe of interest, if it's a job within RM then I suppose it's possible they could contact your current manager for a reference, the other thing to mention that could be useful info is iirc if it's something you apply for through the success factors site then they can't block/delay it like they can if for example it's a transfer to a different DO that's been arranged with the new DO manager.

Re: Applying for different Royal mail job
Unless someone on here knows the exact workings of RM's HR department... you may struggle for precise answer.
I would say, from previous jobs, yes the HR department would contact your current manager as part of the recruitment process. Reference, checking attendance, agreement to release, whatever.
From distant memory you don't need to let your manager know but it's better to do so. I remember an internal job application form with the question "Have you informed your current manager that you are applying for this role? YES/NO". Clearly they knew this issue occurs and the current manager is blindsided by the contact from HR and gets angry.
Ultimately it's the honest thing to do - let all parties know. "Hey mate, I've put in for X. I think it works better for me as it means not working late, etc. etc.". If you don't get the new position you can look the manager in their eyes and say you told them; then ask for a tweak to your current role etc. for hours that suit.

Re: Applying for different Royal mail job
Thanks for replying,
I agree that being honest and transparent it's way to go.
However my situation is bit more complicated.
I spoke to my manager I explained my situation childcare involved however I'm still getting difficult duties and now late delivery shifts where my other colleagues who started after me ( seniority) are on easy one cuz apparently they are not reliable. Hmm...
I did partially solve my issue with my manager and been explained that this is what company is requesting from me and others however like mentioned my other colleagues somehow getting easier duties ....
Well like mentioned it's bit complicated however I will follow suggestions and talk to manager again.

It would probably be wise to keep the fact you are looking under your hat for the time being.
But...
It used to be the case that your manager had to release you for any interviewing or testing for internal vacancy applications
They can't give you that time if they don't know that you need it

Re: Applying for different Royal mail job
Some things you apply for require you to inform your manager in order to continue with the application. So on Success Factors you can’t complete an application form without checking a box to state that you have told them.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Re: Applying for different Royal mail job
Just been through the process of internal job swapping myself.
I got the job and only after I was promoted (new line manager's words) was my COM informed.
When I broke the news he told me he already knew and we had a chat about the whole application etc.
Tl, dr
Your manager will be contacted if you are successful. Just to get the ball rolling regarding staffing etc.
