Ban on all extended delivery.

Last week we were told that there is now a ban on all extended delivery until further notice. Consequently, most of the walks on our division are now failing, as posties are having to "manage" their jobs. (eg: take all specials, tracked and oversize; leave half of the mail on alternate days).

We've been told that has been introduced nationwide across the company, and also that OFCOM have been made aware.

Apart from the obvious implications regarding USO, and Christmas pressure, I'm surprised that there's no discussion about this, here on the forum.

Are we being spun a tale in our office, or is it also happening elsewhere?

It's way beyond stupid to be banning all extended delivery, at the busiest time of the year, especially with Black Friday coming up. Wonder if any DO will reach double digits of number of days worth of mail backed up

No, that has not been introduced nationally. Sounds like your office has been supposed to cut hours ie. Jobs, but hasn’t and so now an OT ban has been introduced. Beyond ridiculous. We have one job, it’s straightforward, but management manage to stuff it up regularly.

We have had overtime bans from time to time this year. At first the managers banned any overtime on the quieter days (Mondays and Tuesdays) and then had a complete ban on delivery excess about a month ago which unfortunately lasted about a week once mail and surplus D2Ds started to build up. I believe this was because our office recruited a lot of new faces and many of them were working past their times everyday.

There is also no incentive bonus in the offing for improving and maintaining quality of service this time round so I guess many units reducing are their overtime ready for when there will likely be a lot of overtime available during 'peak'. I would be surprised if managers don't start asking regular staff to work days off when we are at our busiest as it is more cost effective than employing temps or even agency.

We had this back during the strikes. When we came back with a load of bags the managers were trying to cut deals to go back out and deliver them. Too late was the cry and off home we went.

It's not a national thing. It just means your office has exceeded whatever pressure overtime budget they have.

Been there done that (lapsing beyod scope, uncovered holidays). Takes you back to the days when we used to shift a dozen bundles of mail everyday.

Told by our union rep our office paid out £30,000 in compensation claims since we took on the new afternoon parcel drivers, most have now left & been replaced & some of them have left, even the new afternoon manager jacked it in, hence the overtime ban which starts today, let the chaos commence, I love it
