Training pay

Hi there,

Just wondering, I’ve started on the 4th and my first day in the office was the 5th.

Will I be getting paid during this period of training and riding along with the experienced posties?

I asked on the 5th as I was leaving to go home and I was told to speak to my manager to “book me in” however when I spoke to him he asked me “Oh you weren’t told that you won’t get paid for today?” I don’t really understand.

I don’t have permanent physical ID yet however it’s been ordered. So I haven’t been able to sign myself on/off.

As above surely your 1st day of service is when you start being paid, I suspect your manager is a a cock which unfortunately is rather common so without sounding negative it probably won't get any better if/when you need to ask for anything.

Btw have you got a PDA login yet as you can "clock" in/out on a PDA if so.

I just called the advice helpline and they told me that I should be getting paid regardless however I have nothing to worry about as unless my manager has stopped my pay (e.g. being off sick), I should still be getting paid. I will definitely be checking my payslip at the end of the month anyways to make sure that it is atleast somewhat accurate.

Do yourself a favour.
Go to the manager and politely tell them you have gone above his head for clarification.
That way he'll know you won't be taken for a fool.
Trust me, this type will walk all over you unless you show them you will stand up to them.

Or start looking for either a transfer out of delivery or a new job.

The OP has stated his manager has told him he won't get paid for his first day. (and possibly his second if he isn't careful)
So that sounds like the manager has gone rogue- he is the one after all that will input his attendance.
The OP is new, he needs to let this manager know that's not acceptable.
In my experience of having spoken to newbies, this happens a lot.
I give them the same advice; what's so wrong with telling someone who is asking for advice that this company treats new starters like crap and to stand up to it?

I started on Oct 7th.

After the online induction on the Monday, I started at the DO from the Tuesday. My ID didn't arrive until the following week, so I didn't do any sort of 'sign-in/out' for the first week, but still got paid fully at the end of the month. As others have mentioned, it sounds like the manager is talking out of his arse!

Have you been allowed to order any uniform yet? I had to wait until week 4 before I was allowed to order anything!!

I think you just need to ask your manager if you'll be paid for the 4th, if not why not given you were at work all day? I wouldn't mention going to HR unless he says he wasn't joking and he really doesn't intend paying you.

Take a note of any overtime you do as well as this company is notorious for short changing you what you have done.

If you are worried about telling him you called HR then tell him HR called you about something and the subject of not getting paid for 2 days came up. Watch the look on his face.

Most other businesses have either working hours as standard or have a clock in clock out system linked to wages….suppose u can thank the cwu for this kind of show
