So, I live in a block of flats at number 98. Postie delivered my tracked 24 package to a road nearby, to another block of flats, at number 82. He even took the pic where my address and house number are very clear, being laser printed, so how did he decide to drop my package into postbox number 82? I could have understood if he had dropped it into a postbox with the same house number as mine but different road, but everything was different! Was not my regular postie for sure, but come on, this is unacceptable. In that block there was no number 98, no.
I had to hang around all day into that block of flats to retrieve my post… could anyone explain how such a mistake could have occurred? The contents were sensitive, so I was not happy at all that they got delivered to the wrong place and thank God I used tracked 24 or else I would not have seen where exactly postie had taken my stuff. Took me hours to find which postbox he randomly chose off the several postboxes in that block of flats. Seems impossible for me to make such a mistake in good faith.
I know most posties work hard and in fact, my regulars are spot on, so not having a go at posties in general.

Re: Postie delivered my package to wrong address
If the other block of flats was in a different road, surely the address on the parcel would be different altogether (ie not even in the right road) ? Or am I missing something ?

Yes, my address is XXX Place number 98. He delivered the package to XXX Road number 82. Completely different road and house number. Like I said, the block of flats he delivered to does not have a number 98 at all, so it baffles me he took a pic where my address is super legible and just chose a random postbox number to drop my package into. I don’t understand how the postie could not see it was not the right address.
The address on the jiggy bag is my correct one. Postie went to a completely different place. It was not a case of dropping the jiffy bag by mistake into that postbox because he had to hold it up and take a pic of it so he could not have missed reading the address on it. It was a deliberate act.

Understand your frustration with this, but we can't provide an explanation or resolution. I'd raise a complaint through the official RM channels especially as you had to do the leg work to retrieve your item and there is evidence that it went to the wrong place through the GPS record on the PDA which took the picture and the picture itself.Stinkycat22 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2024, 17:23BenacreNick wrote: ↑06 Nov 2024, 16:16If the other block of flats was in a different road, surely the address on the parcel would be different altogether (ie not even in the right road) ? However, I doubt whether you'll get an detailed explanation why, just a standard apology, but internally within RM the cause should be investigated.

Don't assume it was a "Postie"

Re: Postie delivered my package to wrong address
Who else would be able to use their PDA to take a pic of my package in a wrong building? I could even see the bag they use to carry mail in the pic lol. Or do you mean it was an agency worker? Still, they are hired to work for RM, so it’s Royal Mail’s responsibility how they work. I clearly said it was not one of my regular posties, because they know my address well and know me too.
They deliver mail, whether agency workers or regular staff, so they are all posties, technically.

Agency workers use the same vans, PDA's and bags that employed RM workers use.
Even partial uniform like RM hi-viz.
RM don't care what an agency worker does, as long as the mail and packets are out of the DO.
If you knew what was going on with them and the managers you would be shocked beyond belief.
Please, an agency worker is an agency worker not a Post Person.

Re: Postie delivered my package to wrong address
I take it you are a Royal Mail regular employee and I can understand why you are being defensive about your colleagues.I said it already my normal posties do a good job and I appreciate them. One of them urged me more than once to complain as once he found my Special Delivery among tracked stuff and he was shocked that had happened and told me to complain about it. He also told me their manager tells them to forget about letters and focus on packages and tracked stuff. He said RM have an obligation to deliver all mail as soon as it is at the delivery office (which I know already by the way) and this practice was really bad.menditsa wrote: ↑10 Nov 2024, 20:54Agency workers use the same vans, PDA's and bags that employed RM workers use.

I have had first class post sitting undelivered at my DO for days. Had to go and collect it myself at last because it was not getting delivered and it was stuff that was important. Letters that were crucial etc.
That the person who delivered my stuff in the wrong place was an agency worker is a mere supposition. It could be but we have no way of knowing for sure. It could very well have been a postie that does not normally do my route and was covering for the regular postie. You should not assume anything and just recognise a very bad mistake was made that caused me great inconvenience. No one apologised to me for this. Certainly not anyone from RM. If I was a RM employee, personally, and read my post I would apologise for the mistake made by my fellow worker and reassure the poster that most employees would never make such mistake.
It is not my problem as a customer, frankly, how agency workers operate compared to normal stuff. I pay for a service and I pay the same amount, whether it gets handled by an employee or temp staff etc. Instead of admitting that mistakes can happen as anyone is just human and humans make mistakes, it seems there is a tendency here to blame anyone else when something goes wrong and in this case you, for example, were quick to blame the mistake on agency staff… as if normal employees could never make mistakes.
I repeat, I can see why an employee could be defensive about it and want to defend their colleagues, but in my case I don’t have proof it was an agency worker and anyway, this is not the issue.
This type of mistake should not occur. It was not the case of someone delivering to the same house number but similar street etc. It was a block of flats where my house number, 98, was not even available.
Whoever made the delivery deliberately and arbitrarily chose a random postbox there and slipped the jiffy bag in there. There is no way anyone didn’t realise it was the wrong place. You have to be blind and have serious intellectual disabilities not to realise this and a person like this could not be doing this job.
If it really was an agency worker then they should be trained properly. That is not my concern as a customer. I know most staff works hard, I know. I am certainly not saying all RM employees suck because of this one incident. My post was meant to find out how someone working for RM could deliberately do this. I realise it was more of a rant than anything. For me it ends here. No need to reply. I am sure you and most of RM staff do a great job and take pride in delivering a great service. I was let down big time this time but I moved on now. Thanks.
