Hi thanks for your time, I was wondering how long it will be there for it’s been there for 6 working days is this normal timeframe at the moment?

There is no set time for customs, batches seem to get picked at random for extra checks. Some other things that can lengthen the time in customs are:

Not displaying the customs declaration;

Not paying the VAT in advance (where applicable);

Contents are suspected to be restricted or prohibited in the mail.

Ok thanks for the very detailed response. What happens if there are any issues like you mentioned? Would they reach out to me or something? Surely the parcel can’t sit there forever.

Customs do not get in touch with people directly. If there is tax to pay, the recipient will get a request from Royal Mail to pay. If everything is alright, it will just get put in the UK mail system with no communication. Other circumstances vary, it might be returned to the sender or it might be destroyed.

Hi Snaggletooth. Your replies have been helpful I did phone the customer services see if any update but the lady there said it’s going back to Spain I really don’t get it. I did speak to the sender and they cannot even see anything about it returning. Not sure what to do now, I doubt there is anything I can do.

Much appreciated

Unfortunately, there is no way to find out why it was rejected on the tracking systems, and there is no way to appeal a customs refusal, However, there should be an explanation label and or letter accompanying the parcel back to the sender.

There are prohibitions and restrictions on what can and can't be imported into the UK. Without knowing what you expected in the parcel, it's difficult to say if you fell foul of this.
