24 years on and the same inanity is repeated again and again.

Why though? We delivery OPGs used to earn thousands of pounds a year extra so why is it the same 'inanity' since the year 2000? Lol

You don’t have to have anything to do with d2ds to get it, the DPR drivers get it.

when we did get cash for d2d's i was a reserve, i spent a month on the same duty and got around £80 p/w depending on weight so it could be £1000s depending on the area, and that was around 15 years back

Occasionally 3.5p per item for a council magazine. A few in between.

I thought it was 1.675p base rate, definitely a cap at 3, at the time RM were apparently having to turn work away due to the cap, they thought they'd played a blinder when the cap went along with the payment, oh how times change eh.

D2D have dropped off massively. I can often go a good few weeks in a row when I don't get a single one in the post

From memory I've only had one lot of D2D's through my door in the last 12 months.

I suspect it's got more to do with my postie not delivering them as they're supposed to.

D2D payments ended and delivery supplements came in, dress it up how u want but it’s a D2D payment by any other name but I will say those on new contracts applied for a job and got a job, what that job asks you to do isn’t your business tbh even if that’s doing an entire week of only D2Ds. Common sense wld tell anyone to claim OT for doing them and offset the delivery supplement. The arrogance of new starts to want to decide what their job role is post accepting that job role is mind boggling

By the same token, I find mind boggling the arrogant and self-entitled approach of a small proportion of legacy employees who believe they have a meal ticket just because of years of service. It tends to be those with roughly 20 or so years of service who fall into this category.

We have one such postie who purposely puts all his D2Ds out on the afternoon before his day off thereby ensuring his day-off cover (a new starter) delivers the vast majority for him the next day. He cuts off every day of the week, even on quiet January days. The first 30 minutes of the day-off cover is always spent putting putting yesterday’s cut-offs back in the frame! Somehow lazy postie has time to throw off his D2Ds for the day-off man though. He has a massive strop anytime his walk isn’t covered on a day off. There are at least 10 others like this in my office.

This def doesn’t apply to all. We have an older gent, 42 years in the job, heavy walk, always a ton of packets, who makes a point of leaving an empty frame for his day-off cover and even invites phone calls (walk has a longish road with named houses that are really confusing and badly signposted).

The final unit payment for D2Ds, before it was abolished, was 1.67p per item, a bit more for large magazines. I can remember multiplying my delivery point total by 5 to get a rough idea of that week's payment when we had 3 contracts, which was indeed the cap per week back then.

I can only speak for my office, but I work in a town where over half of the housing stock is terraced streets. Because of this, when I started at RM back in the 90s, virtually every round in the office had well over 500 delivery points. Many rounds had a mix of terraced and semi-detached and were in the 650-750 delivery point range, but there were half a dozen rounds that were purely terraced and had over 850 delivery points each. If memory serves me right, I think that the highest was about 980. (we currently have several shared van duties of circa 1800 delivery points, and one of just over 2000)

There were people in my office who did make thousands in D2D payments every year. As D2Ds weren't classed as normal workload, but as an extra, we had peeps who would volunteer to deliver the D2Ds of people who had no appetite for doing them. They would deliver them after work, or even at weekend. They then signed a docket to claim the payments generated by those extra rounds. Some people did 2 or 3 extra rounds every week.

This all correct and accurate.
I used to do mates d2d on a Sunday when I was going through a divorce.
He would pay me 20 quid (as he hated doing them) and then claim the unit rates and pay me cash for the lot after tax.
Some Sundays I was making over 100 for 3 hours work max, (dead easy with no mail), including paying my daughter in sweets to prep them on a Saturday night, she used to love it!
We're talking good money 20 years ago.
