It has? What was the reasoning behind the sky-high double-digit inflationary periods of Wilson's and Callaghan's governments then?

Seeing alot of you talking about £15ph.
Some of us legacy posties already get close to that with Basic+Delivery Sup+A monthly Supplement(ICS).
Which takes it to about £14.87ph on contract hours.
To get back what we had in the past we would need well over 10% payrise.
Well over £16ph.
Some ppl might disagree with that.
But the fact remains that new entraints aren't staying as theres better pay else where due to how far we've fallen.
Who wants to work in a blizzard or a storm for 30p above minimum wage where u could literally work anywhere else for the same pay.
We're no longer competing against other delivery companies for staff. We're now competing with all jobs around the DO's.

My starting rate at RM was £7.31/h and the minimum wage was £5.52 in 2007 - so 30% above. After a year I was up to full rate £8.391/h at which point MW had just crept up to £5.73, yielding 46%. I specifically recall a conversation with a colleage that summer in which we both agreed that we were well paid for unskilled labourers. I haven't heard anyone express such contentment in a long time.

According to Royal mail we are the best paid in the industry. I know total joke. We do the hardest work in the industry, we have letters, d2d, tons of parcels most of them tracked, we get tracked everywhere we go now and everything we do, sent outside for 4+ hours in the most extreme weather hot and cold with substandard protection, and for all that we are basically minimum wage, oh and don't forget the crap pension they are forcing us to join and the comical union who sell us out every deal. This job has become thoroughly depressing.

Unskilled worker, ok so scaffolders do you consider them to be skilled workers? Because I don't and they earn about £45000 a year, more than most professionals/management. So this unskilled worker has zero to do with salary. The facts are this job is a lot harder than most jobs, simply because the workload and the extreme weather we are exposed to and not forget the hazards such as dogs etc etc. Royal mail have been paying us cheaply for years now because our CWU (Corporate w*****s Union) shaft us in every deal they do. I’m a newbie, currently 3 months in and I’ll be honest I am really enjoying the job, the banter in the mornings and the friendliness of the public while out, but the wage is absolutely shocking and because of this I don’t think I will be able to stick it out

I don't think it's so much of other jobs having such a better wage, it's the fact that for the work we do the wage is bad and for a few pence above the new min wage there are easier unskilled jobs out there,
