Because when bad line managers start threatning new people with wilful delay of delay of the kings mail if they don't complete it's the final straw for them.

I'd say 80% of the new starts I've seen this year have left because of threats like this.

When I'm out and can't complete I just text the manager telling him, all I get back is ok just make sure the tracked get done.. least then I have proof of managers agreement.

They want us to either call or text when we are out if we can't complete, but yeah there is the other side of it, like last week all got was a few calls asking how many tracked I had left and how long till I get back..

I presume even you yourself use your own mobile phone for work if or when you’re sick and thus unable to attend work and need to report your absence. By all means set parameters on “work use”, eg, no calling you on your day off, not installing/joining their WhatsApp group, etc, etc, but why the problem?

Because RM should provide (or enable) the tools to do our job. The PDA has perfectly good phone functionality but our managers refuse to
upload their (work) mobile numbers to them to allow us to contact them because of 'Data Protection'? Figure that one out!

However apparently its fine for when PDA's fail for posties to upload 'Proof of delivery' photos to our own phones according to managers. Who knows what apps we've downloaded that can have access to our photo library!

Ah, each to their own, I suppose. I take an easier view of things whereby I’m quite happy for people generally (including managers) to ring me on my phone - and vice versa. I don’t class that as “work use”. For me, “work use” is using your own mobile as a PDA device (which is what Amazon and other delivery drivers do).

I cannot think of more of a juxtaposition between the company name and how things really are. Do we look like we convey the King's mail? More like a child's DPD Halloween costume from Poundland.

After working for RM for 25 years, I left to do something else for a couple of months, but it didn't work out, so came back on the new contract. With the lower hourly rate and allowances gone, I earn less doing a 6 day week, than someone on a legacy contract doing 5. No wonder new starters aren't sticking around. We've had about a dozen start in our place over past month and about 1/3 of them have already gone

The two-tier workforce that RM have created will be the very last thing that the company will address. Managers may look to make those guys working lives on the inferior contracts more palatable by putting them on regular duties but for the business as a whole - new parcel sortation machines, new vans, parcel lockers etc etc are at the top of the shopping list.
