Very Busy Saturday 26/10/24
Anyone else have a busy Saturday this week 26th October ?
2 full boxes of mail and it was the busiest day of the week because Wednesday and Thursday were quiet for mail, our union rep reckoned that the mail centres were holding back mail that wasn’t first or second class then pushed it through for Saturday delivery, some houses were having between 8 to 10 letters so it then looked like that they hadn't had any letters for a number of days, our rep said the mail centres had held the mail back to make sure we could deliver our parcels on the busy days and by holding the mail back we could then finish on time and get the parcels done, But then your stung on the Saturday and you just can’t deliver all the mail and parcels, so I ended up going over by 30 minutes and claimed it and brought some mail back but I did get all the parcels done…So how corrupt is Royal Mail getting ? when they are holding mail back to prioritize Parcels and making sure we deliver them on that day without having too many letters to jeopardize the non delivery of the parcels for that busy day in the week.

Sounds like the dts system, basically bulk postings that RM sell at a lower rate are held until there's an item for the same address or the timescale expires.

Over the last couple of weeks we've had electoral register letters going out. Sometimes if we're going to be really blown out on the CSSs, the DTS will be turned off up to the time that the DTS data comes through to the CSS machines.

This really shouldn't be happening and needs to be stopped.
The Dts button needs to be turned off - so that we get all mail to our delivery frames everyday.
I don't think that any mail should be held back as the machines don't know if there is a parcel or manual letter for an address where mail is held back.
For me the Saturday before was really busy which was annoying because they knew i wanted to go to the football, but yesterday football was away so it didn't matter.

All packets are now scanned in MCs so they have the parcels data. Manual letters have dropped off massively over the last few yearsBenacreNick wrote: ↑27 Oct 2024, 12:13This really shouldn't be happening and needs to be stopped.

I get 2 trays almost every Saturday and Monday, Saturday is a shorter day for us. RM logic.

Well done going 30 minutes over to get it done. You’ll be loaded next week.

Probably some 2C hitting the 5 day limit and getting released automatically. I believe that when an item of 2C gets released, any other items for the same DP automatically get released as well.

We seem to be consistantly busier on a Saturday all the time.plus we usually have lapsing on top of it all.i end up bringing mail back every Saturday in order to finish on my time.

Saturday is one of the worst I think, we have shorter time, and there's no overtime so we have to do the oversize.. Absolutely no chance of clearing both walks and the parcels.. we either leave a whole walk or end up bring pouches back full of mail..

Re: Very Busy Saturday 26/10/24
Could it be that RM are holding the mail and sending it down on Saturday because posties want to finish early so many of them come in earlier than usual and rush round to compensate? Those who have football season passes are likely culprits.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Very Busy Saturday 26/10/24
That makes sense, I assume all the 2C post is stuck in the system then all gets sent out on the Friday evening, then on Monday's we have virtually no post as it's held back again. Customers then complain they are getting post in bulk once a week when it's just the system holding their post back. I had 5 pieces of DTS type post at home yesterday but not one other mail delivery all week!!SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑27 Oct 2024, 12:59Probably some 2C hitting the 5 day limit and getting released automatically. Re: Very Busy Saturday 26/10/24
It was very busy at our place yesterday too. Apparently some sort of machine was broken in the mail centre on Friday which resulted in a light Friday for mail and parcels, then a monster Saturday for both mail and parcels, esp oversized.
And tomorrow is already looking to be a busy day — we have over 40 Yorks of packets and parcels already waiting in the DO, with the bulk of it still yet to come in. Glad I’m off!
