RM job vacancy Isle of Raasay

Post by ted_e_bear »

Just looking at the RM jobs website and I spotted this one, it's a one duty office apparently so the vacancy is for the cover duty one day per week :chuckle

Weighing up the pros and cons

IPS will be a piece of piss
No lapsing
No that duties easier than mine
You always get the 1st pick for holidays

But on the downside the banter will be a bit lacking

all fun until the duty holder decides to work day off and you get ferried (literally) off to another island.

And they'd expect you to use your own boat.

Is it not the case in these mega rural areas that you are expected to deliver peoples shopping too? Plus open the shop, do a 2 hour shift in the pub, then cook dinner for the school kids?

Why not? I expect there wouldn't be much else to do. Drink whiskey from the distillery maybe? About everybody on the island works there as it's literally the only thing on there, apparently.

No that’s just Dave Ward’s long term dream for everyone.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

It's worth reading the story of Calum Macleod:

https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/calums-road

Along with many other daily tasks he also delivered the post to the north of the island, which included a four mile round trip on foot and rowing a boat to the smaller island of Rona to the north.
For what it's worth I do know Raasay quite well as a regular visitor there.
