Questions about repick

Hey, folks.

So there’s plans for a full revision in my office early next year, which will trigger a repick, and I just have a few concerns that I’d love addressing if at all possible as it will be my first experience with such a thing. Apologies if this sort of thing gets asked all the time.

Context: I’m 30 hours PT with my own duty (1 in 6), which I’m resigned to losing because I’ve not even been a postie for a full five years yet and I know more senior people are sniffing around already.

1. During a repick do you have to apply for a job that matches your current arrangement or can you apply for anything? Eg can a part timer apply for a full timer position and vice versa? Can someone working the standard one day off apply for a wallington job and vice versa.

2. If I lose my current walk like I suspect, will I automatically lose my wallington unless I land on another job with those same requirements? Losing the walk is one thing, but I’ve just booked my entire annual leave around those rest weeks. And thanks to RM’s stupid insistence on booking AL ridiculously far in advance through to 2026 that could potentially mess things up for the foreseeable future.

Again, I’m sorry if this sort of thing gets asked a lot, but the lack of clarification from management on this has lead to quite a bit of stressing from myself and some colleagues. We just don’t know where we stand.

It's done on seniority, if there's any full time rounds left when it's your pick, then you can pick one.

There will be more experienced posties on here than me to answer the Wallington questions but, part timers can only pick a part time duty, well, that’s my experience anyway and only when I was made up to full time could I then pick a full time duty, which I duly did. However, full timers can pick a part time duty.
There were full time vacancies when I was part time, but the manager would not let me pick them.

At ours the full timers pick first on seniority then the part timers on seniority. There were full time duties going spare so the more senior part timers picked these or went full time reserve. I think those on a Wallington week were able to stay on them when they picked a duty if they had enough seniority. I’m hoping we have one soon now that a lot have left and we’ve taken on a few new recruits.

We had a blind re pick about 2 years ago now. You chose your preferred duty then 2nd choice and 3rd choice. 4th,5th and 6th etc as any duty's as you wanted to put your name in for and obviously seniority ruled but it confused so many people and some only put one choice on their pick and so lost out on a potential duty they could have got.

You forgot to mention that people employed on the basis that they can drive can now pick a non-driving duty.

Can't see why it confused anyone but it's a bit unfair that when it got to those involved's turn they weren't asked for their preference rather than just missing them out, that's bad

Always have done as they should be able to.

The annoying thing is when a non-driver picks a driver duty.

Five years in the job can put you in the middle third of the seniority list now. Half our office started after 2014. We've got people on the new contracts signed to walks that were previously locked down by FT staff for the last fifteen years. If you started as late as this Spring you could land a floating duty.

Surely they have to bring back the Five Years service award?

A few of our vans are more senior than about a third of the staff

Watch out for the people who try and mix it up and and say they are going to pick duties A B or C as they are so easy, then they just stay on 'the hardest duty in the office'.

Can't comment too much on our revision as it was promised nearly two years ago and we still haven't had it.

A lot will say they are looking at X duty or Y duty, but when their turn comes around to pick "I'll stick to what I'm on now"
