Extra scans for all packets (both Tracked and normal)

I've heard that RM are going to bring in nationally where every packet is scanned at each work area it passes through (I believe that primary and secondary sort will be classed as separate work areas). We've not had a briefing on it yet, but from what I've heard it sounds like possibly each packet is scanned when unloaded from a sleeve or york, scanned again when sorted and another time if it goes to secondary sort. It sounds like packets will be scanned out to a york/sleeve.

Before any DO staff moan about this being posted in this forum and not the MC forum, I don't know if RM plan to also roll this out in DOs

They tried doing this 8 years ago (when we had a lot more hub staff) and we couldn't handle it then, we ended up just doing 1st class. Then we stopped in late November (too many parcels) and then never started again after Christmas.

So RM know where everything is in the pipeline and can pass info on to the customer.

Pretty sure this was mentioned at the beginning of PDA use, also recall mention of barcodes on the front of the sequenced box

A lot of grey trays do have barcodes on them so I wonder if they tried this out previously.

It's all part of the long-term goal of getting the indoor work in a DO tied to the PDA like the outdoor work has become.

Seems utterly pointless for a packet sorter to scan a parcel in at DO for it then to be scanned again maybe 50 mins later when the duty holder scans their parcels in. This is Royal Mail though so if it pisses off the staff and slows things down then I won’t be shocked if it’s rolled out nationally.

Can't see it being implemented in do's, we already do the scan to core route scan which subsequently triggers the customer notification of the item having arrived at the do and being out for delivery when we upload the info and log into outdoor prior to leaving the office.

There's no point that I can think of having an extra scan that simply records the item passing through IPS as what we already do records it as arriving at the do and being planned for delivery that day.

Yes.Thats pretty much the process being implemented in my MC ( starts 21/10/24).Very similar to what happens in the RLO at the moment allocating each SD to each DO by scanning barcodes.

Regards scanning we no longer scan the core route (some do, the old timers) we just scan ready for delivery, no ones ever said owt
