I agree 100%. Lest it be unclear, although I mentioned returning OOS items, I wasn’t referring to doing so for the rural DPRs— they are an exception.
As a DPR driver, it is not your job to be kicking any parcels out to the walks. That’s a manager’s job if they can be bothered.
You kicking them out makes you as popular as snot.
We’re just following the managers’ instructions. But being at the coalface, those of us who do DPRs can see why the rule is there in the first place: to maximise precious van-space capacity.
No, it’s a stupid rule because all Tracked are the same, large, small or flat. They all have to be delivered to the same time scale. So your job is to deliver those tracked you are given, whatever they are, because by kicking any out, you are simply palming off tracked to someone else who is loaded like a donkey.
It’s not your job to be tracked monitor.
Why should a DPR driver have to run around like an idiot trying to clear 150+ tracked, whilst the HCT user just strolls around chatting to any customer they meet on their round knowing if they can't complete they'll just bring any undelivered mail back to the DO? Unless we have a particularly busy Weds or Thurs I've never seen our HCT users over loaded.
DPR are employed to deliver Tracked. It’s literally their job. So that’s why they should spend their shift doing just that. In a van.

No, we’re employed as posties. Being new-age posties, we do a multitude of things - walks, firms duties, the occasional HCT walk (yes, I know!), afternoon collections, DPR duties, one of us does CSP one evening a week….

There will be one when OFCOM get around to approving RM's proposals to deliver most mail only on alternative days? Although the way stamped mail being collected from post boxes has dropped off this week then you do wonder if RM will make such a move before OFCOM make their own move.
