Returning smaller parcels to a rural duty makes even less sense, everything (mail included) should be going in one visit
I agree 100%. Lest it be unclear, although I mentioned returning OOS items, I wasn’t referring to doing so for the rural DPRs— they are an exception.
As a DPR driver, it is not your job to be kicking any parcels out to the walks. That’s a manager’s job if they can be bothered.

You kicking them out makes you as popular as snot.
We’re just following the managers’ instructions. But being at the coalface, those of us who do DPRs can see why the rule is there in the first place: to maximise precious van-space capacity.
No, it’s a stupid rule because all Tracked are the same, large, small or flat. They all have to be delivered to the same time scale. So your job is to deliver those tracked you are given, whatever they are, because by kicking any out, you are simply palming off tracked to someone else who is loaded like a donkey.

It’s not your job to be tracked monitor.
We’re all loaded like donkeys though!

The smalls and flats fit inside a Partner or Combo and can be delivered by the walk postie. The passing of those items to the DPR invariably leads to a near-empty Partner for the walk postie but yet a no-more-space DPR van. Space/capacity on the medium and large vehicles for oversize is in very short supply at our place.

No DPR driver is loaded like a donkey. Posties are. Think about that next time you are kicking some tracked onto their shoulders.

You seem to be missing the point that all Tracked are exactly the same. 90 stops is still 90 stops no matter the size of the parcel. It is all the same.

I am a postie first and foremost though — as you conveniently, yet continuously, overlook.

And I’d like nothing more than to fill my time delivering post-able and small Tracked — the easiest of all to deliver — but that isn’t the purpose of a DPR.

No one is talking about you delivering Tracked flats, but Sunday DPR and LAT drivers do all the time so like I say, ALL Tracked are the same. It’s a numbers game. 90 is still 90 regardless of size. Just deliver the numbers and go home.

You are not a postie first because you have zero empathy for posties. It’s all about DPR and sticking to some long forgotten parcel size.

Ninety? Maybe if you’re lucky, perhaps on a rural, but try 180+ Tracked on a busy DPR duty at our place! We often have to leave a York behind and then come back once we have made space in the van for it.

180 then. It makes no difference, large or small, it’s still 180 out of the number of Tracked that arrived for delivery that day.

I feel once you have more than 40 Tracked to deliver as part of your round, then it gets so much harder to complete. Having to deliver 35 Tracked as part of your duty compared delivering 50 Tracked as part of your duty can massively increase the time it takes to do the round.

Once you have 50+ Tracked and a lot of them are larger size it slows everything down.

-Things get awkward by your frame as you have parcels on the floor and parcels overflowing on the top of your frame.

-The more Tracked you have, the more large Tracked you have, which means more stops in the van to drop off parcels.

-You likely need to use 2 yorks, so essentially need to load your van twice.

-Your van is now rammed full of parcels and mail that everything is on top of each other, which makes it hard to organise, easy to miss things and you need to regularly reorganise the back of the van....especially if you are in a Combo van and especially if you are in a van-share in a Combo van.

Royal Mail should cap the number of Tracked you take to 40 parcels unless the mail is light. They should then hire van drivers to clear the rest.
Just wait until they start to insist that you do collections within a two hour window. They are already advertising this to customers.
thats fine then they will be even more stuff going back :thumbup

If I’m covering DPR and I’m overloaded I usually just leave a few of the smaller items in and more often than not they end up getting cleared.

Why should a DPR driver have to run around like an idiot trying to clear 150+ tracked, whilst the HCT user just strolls around chatting to any customer they meet on their round knowing if they can't complete they'll just bring any undelivered mail back to the DO? Unless we have a particularly busy Weds or Thurs I've never seen our HCT users over loaded.

There's no "90" limit in our DO, it's basically deliver all the Tracked you are given for the duties you are covering, we regularly deliver 120+ even outside peak.

DPR are employed to deliver Tracked. It’s literally their job. So that’s why they should spend their shift doing just that. In a van.

A HCT postie walks their entire walk pushing their entire walk in a trolley. Without any respite in a van.

No comparison really.

The passing of those items to the DPR invariably leads to a near-empty Partner but yet a no-more-space DPR van.

There's no "90" limit in our DO, it's basically deliver all the Tracked you are given for the duties you are covering, we regularly deliver 120+ even outside peak.
90 was a number plucked out of thin air to use in the example. It wasn’t intended to be definitive.

No DPR routes in our office....the screws said that if they put them in then our duties would need to be even bigger to compensate

Jeez, as if a 6 and half hour delivery span isn't enough....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

DPR are employed to deliver Tracked. It’s literally their job. So that’s why they should spend their shift doing just that. In a van.

A HCT postie walks their entire walk pushing their entire walk in a trolley. Without any respite in a van.

No comparison really.
No, we’re employed as posties. Being new-age posties, we do a multitude of things - walks, firms duties, the occasional HCT walk (yes, I know!), afternoon collections, DPR duties, one of us does CSP one evening a week….
