Well they stopped us matching up all parcels for an address. In my own experience we don't visit that many addresses twice a day, it's far more inefficient trying to match post and packets with oversized parcels.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:00Well they stopped us matching up all parcels for an address. Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
I wouldn’t suggest matching post, but there’s no reason for several parcels for one house to be delivered separately because the recipient has to answer the door every time there is a parcel. It’s not an inconvenience to the DPR to have several parcels for the same address because the PDA tells them they do.TopperGas wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:05In my own experience we don't visit that many addresses twice a day, it's far more inefficient trying to match post and packets with oversized parcels.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:00Well they stopped us matching up all parcels for an address. Not a chance, we don't have enough lorries for that to happen and we don't have enough room to park many more.postslippete wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 09:17SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 09:02Physically impossible to all arrive in one wave, you'd never get it onto a single lorry, unless your DO can handle a full size artic (a double stacker artic of you're a larger DO)postslippete wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 08:36However, our start times are now later and the mail will probably come in one wave.
It is a larger DO but I don't see what the issue is with transport as they could just send it on two lorries? It's not impossible for mail to arrive in one wave as we get it on Monday. During the week the 2nd wave is barely half a tray (sometimes just a few letters lol) and arrives just 30 minutes after the 1st wave.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
I feel once you have more than 40 Tracked to deliver as part of your round, then it gets so much harder to complete. Having to deliver 35 Tracked as part of your duty compared delivering 50 Tracked as part of your duty can massively increase the time it takes to do the round.
Once you have 50+ Tracked and a lot of them are larger size it slows everything down.
-Things get awkward by your frame as you have parcels on the floor and parcels overflowing on the top of your frame.
-The more Tracked you have, the more large Tracked you have, which means more stops in the van to drop off parcels.
-You likely need to use 2 yorks, so essentially need to load your van twice.
-Your van is now rammed full of parcels and mail that everything is on top of each other, which makes it hard to organise, easy to miss things and you need to regularly reorganise the back of the van....especially if you are in a Combo van and especially if you are in a van-share in a Combo van.
Royal Mail should cap the number of Tracked you take to 40 parcels unless the mail is light. They should then hire van drivers to clear the rest.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
I'd say that every walk has 2 or 3 customers at least who receive multiple parcels/packets every day, oversized goes to driver smaller parcels stay with walk. Driver knows there will be other parcels but is off out delivering before the parcels on the walk have been sorted
It's not the drivers fault as if they don't get out they won't complete but they often come back to more oversized which have been sorted incorrectly

Just wait until they start to insist that you do collections within a two hour window. They are already advertising this to customers.norris9 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:31I feel once you have more than 40 Tracked to deliver as part of your round, then it gets so much harder to complete. Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
The combos are great. How often do you get in one and it's in limp mode with an engine management light on? I don't think I have in 10 years. The Fiat's on the other hand, I don't think I've ever got in one that's not in limp mode. The pugs are marginally better, but they're the newer vans in our fleet so time will tell. The combos shift when you put your boot down enall!Barnacle wrote: ↑03 Oct 2024, 18:23The little Vauxhalls may look ancient but they’re actually great workhorses. The new bigger vans had door failures in year one. Can’t see them being around as long as the Combis.Basildon Bond wrote: ↑03 Oct 2024, 18:06I was in an '08 plate combi with nearly 130k on it the other day. It was well pass it; everything broken on it - still nippy though. However, the doblos are cr*pping out with 35k on them so honestly the Vauxhall is doing bl*ody fantastic to tell the truth. Hate to see the Fiats at 130,000 miles!ted_e_bear wrote: ↑03 Oct 2024, 18:02Luxury....compared to our 13 plate doblos that are even shitter than our 10 plate combos

It is against the rules, not to mention an inefficient use of your time, to band together multiple small packets so that you can try to lose them to the DPR driver. Do you also put the mail within the elastic band for him/her to deliver too?Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:19I wouldn’t suggest matching post, but there’s no reason for several parcels for one house to be delivered separately because the recipient has to answer the door every time there is a parcel. Christ 40 tracked!! I dream of days of 40 tracked parcels and i have never seen a parcel only delivery driver except at xmas. Do we work for the same company?norris9 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2024, 11:31I feel once you have more than 40 Tracked to deliver as part of your round, then it gets so much harder to complete. I jest but only about the company bit, i get on a average day 90 - 100 tracked on my duty and thats all year, then we have peak, starts about beginning of november right through xmas, 120+ everyday and doesn't relent until january. In december we have extra drivers for parcels only.
Then we have "lapsed" duties, i call it lapsed loosely, the guy retired and his replacement quit, that can add another 20-30 tracked at least of all sizes.
Useless company with useless ideas.

Our parcel drivers are perfectly happy to take let's say a softy packet/packets/smaller boxes along with a shoesize or above. driveway, business or care home they'll also ask for the mail too. Depends on your office relationships I suppose. Might take you 30 seconds in the office but saves the you and the business more than that outside.

I know for definite you’re not a postie now because we band together packets/parcels for the same address as a matter of course. It’s no inefficiency on my part to then put that bundle on the DPR York and the DPR makes one trip to the recipient’s door. When I am on a DPR duty I make a point of returning out-of-scope small packets in any all instances where other posties haven’t had the decency to check if I have scope/space.

What should happen is that they take all parcels for the same house instead of the farce that is they won’t take anything that measures outside of the box even if there’s one that they should take and one they shouldn’t. We both go to the same house that day
