There's no way that they'd be pre-sorted into yorks as that would take up way too much space. More likely would be into sacks. Not all MCs have got packet sorting machines and the ones that do are probably also running outward at the same time as inward so probably won't have the spare selectionspostslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:25Unless the parcels are going to arrive into delivery offices already pre-sorted into Yorks with the various walks (like they do with the buddy trays) its pointless trying to do it this way because it will be far too time consuming for the walk-sorters.

Ok. I had this weird idea that these super-hubs would be able to do that considering that they are the size of 30 football pitches but then there are obviously thousands of walks in the UK. If that is the case then this method isn't the game-changer and will likely lead to errors while out on deliveries if the parcels are not double checked first. What will really save indoor time in delivery offices imho is not having to put sequenced mail in frames.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

So Delivery 2.0 throws up the problem of no longer having space to organise your packets and so the pyramid is their answerclaretandblue wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:00This process is specifically designed for delivery 2.0 offices, the one in the video is one.TopperGas wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 22:37Delivery 2.0 seems to be now being rolled out to more DO's, you can just see this new process following it, what I can't understand is that around half my packets don't match the duty after scanning them so is that going to be improved so the sorter knows which "block" it goes into? I also assume anything above letter size will have to be scanned not just the Tracked? Still can't understand why they can't be sorted into the grey trays or similar and then the postie who's delivering the round left to place them in the pouches in the correct order they are going to deliver them.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 19:57Before you all end up in need of psychiatric help, stop a minute, unless you are a fairly recent employee of RM you will remember how many times these bright ideas have turned up over the years. You will also know how many of these bright ideas have been implemented....... i am struggling to think of any.
They keep trying to reinvent the wheel and failing miserably, the cost over the years must be incredible. At some stage they will realise that in the end it's us guys on the frontline who know best and keep this company afloat, mind you by the time they do realise it could be a new century.

the mail centre actually bothering to sort stuff. Since covid the amount of manual flats has gone through the roof and with second wave mail not being sequenced every office is wasting a massive amount of time. However i'm sure the bosses know that and are at this moment making sure the mail centres up their gameWhat will really save indoor time in delivery offices imho is

No there isn't absolutely no chance, as far as the comment about sequenced mail is concerned it takes me about 10 minutes to put a tray in, I'm pretty sure it would take loads longer to try and slot the rest in the correct place without a frame.Barnacle wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 09:46I doubt their is any time saving or cost saving whatsoever.postslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 08:04SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:46

Packet sequencing tech does already exist but it's too slow to be useful atmted_e_bear wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 16:25No there isn't absolutely no chance, as far as the comment about sequenced mail is concerned it takes me about 10 minutes to put a tray in, I'm pretty sure it would take loads longer to try and slot the rest in the correct place without a frame.Barnacle wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 09:46I doubt their is any time saving or cost saving whatsoever.postslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 08:04SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:46

At current call rates that's mere minutes. That's what makes it possible and also what makes it almost pointless. What they save will be squandered on all the problems it throws up. Can't I just be left in peace to sort my own goddamned packets?postslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 08:04What will really save indoor time in delivery offices imho is not having to put sequenced mail in frames.

They’ve also tried this and there were absolutely zero savings and in fact , it took more time. Bench merging has been tried numerous times with exactly the same result.Mr Rush wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 17:03At current call rates that's mere minutes. You know how after 14 very long years of ‘efficiency savings’, and repeated failed changes to the service, the NHS has tipped over breaking point and is now in cardiac arrest? I feel we’re at that point with RM.Pidleypoo wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 17:54They’ve also tried this and there were absolutely zero savings and in fact , it took more time. Those at the top are still spaffing money up the wall on pointless amendments to operations, none of which increase the volume of parcels which they actually need to happen to justify the millions spaffed up the wall on massive SupaDoopa Hubs. So much is being shelled out, and yet the service provided is being jammed down the toilet. None of it makes any sense.

It does not need to, if the computer says there is a saving to be made it will do so.Barnacle wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 18:03You know how after 14 very long years of ‘efficiency savings’, and repeated failed changes to the service, the NHS has tipped over breaking point and is now in cardiac arrest? This is ONLY about profit now, how much can we squeeze out of the work force, how hard can we work them.
Very little human input into any change & as those at top don’t really know it’s simply excepted.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Surely they will follow the same process we presently follow, when the yorks arrive at the DO's the parcels/packets will all be sorted into individual walks, when they are then passed to the walks instead of being put on top of the frame as there are now, they'll be put into the individual pouches. I' assume when the postie due to deliver the walk postie arrives then quickly sort each pouch into the order they are going to deliver them, rather than spend time searching through the pouches when out on the walk, we all know there's nothing worse to getting to a customers doorstep with one item and when we scan it the PDA suggests two or more are due to be delivered that day. One thing this will stop is posties passing multiple packets or packets with parcels to the DPR driver to deliver.postslippete wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 07:25Unless the parcels are going to arrive into delivery offices already pre-sorted into Yorks with the various walks (like they do with the buddy trays) its pointless trying to do it this way because it will be far too time consuming for the walk-sorters. Also, many regular customers often order more than one item at a time so if the sorters are just scanning them and banging them into the bags at random, the postie actually doing that round will still need to empty those bags and put them in some sort of order, especially if they are not marked. And obviously they will need to check through the bags anyway to make sure they are not going to the same address twice if they have any larger parcels.
The pouches are always in short supply and most posties tend to keep them locked in their vans so they don't get nicked. I've been asking for months for additional bags and have had to make do with the few that I've got.

I’ll still be passing large or heavy parcels to the DPR drivers. I know what I will carry and the parcels we have been getting are bigger than shoebox. Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
They won't be sorted into walks at the MCs. Not every MC has got a packet sorting machine and it won't be practical to have 1 york per walk. Think how many lorry runs would be needed, you'd all be starting a couple of hours later if it were to happen. The current tech on the market to sort packets to walks is very slowTopperGas wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 19:23Surely they will follow the same process we presently follow, when the yorks arrive at the DO's the parcels/packets will all be sorted into individual walks, when they are then passed to the walks instead of being put on top of the frame as there are now, they'll be put into the individual pouches.
