That’s not something small really. I have my bag adjusted perfectly for me. Shoulder and back issues start with carrying the weight incorrectly. If this pyramid nonsense is rolled out, I’ll be transferring mail and packets to my own bag.norris9 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 14:20Maybe something small, but some posties prefer their own bags to be a certain strap length. I understand you can simply just hang your bags up at the end of the day, but typically - if you don't lock your bags up they get taken.
If the bags you get are the ones randomly hang on your pyramid frame - then you could end up with bags with holes in them, straps too long or too short.... broken bags etc...

The cynic in me tells me it might just be another new thing to encourage the old guard to leave.
Think about how much of it we've had these last few years chipping away bit by bit.
It certainly is daft enough along most other brainwaves recently.
Maybe we should draw up a list, seeing it written down might make us realise the extent to which this job has changed, and not for the better.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
It's just funny to me that this is what Royal Mail management come up with as a way to make prep/delivery more efficient. On the face of it - it won't be any better, it may actually be a hindrance.
Things that could actually be done to make things more efficient:
All letterboxes should be fit for purpose
Getting a rule/law in place where customer's postboxes need to be a standard height and size. Low letterboxes are a health and safety hazard and small letterboxes are not fit for purpose. It is ridiculously inefficient having to deliver larger items of mail, particularly 'do not bend' items like cards to these addresses. Having to knock or write out dockets for a birthday or xmas card is ruddy ridiculous and massively time wasting. Times this by ~1million UK addresses with postboxes like these - it results in a lot of wasted time over the year.
New starts getting lost on new rounds - Give them a basic map of the round and important details
Just having a map of the round with postboxes marked, the place to park to do the loops, codes to get in flats, as well as any other helpful notes about hard to find properties, would have saved me a tonne of time out on rounds when I was a new start being moved around. This is such a basic thing to produce. An A4 sheet of paper with this info should be besides each frame to take with you. This is common sense for any manager to produce so that your new starts don't get as lost as they will without it. If I ever became a manager - I'd make sure this is done right away. There were 2 occasions where it took me 15 frigging minutes just looking for a postbox - both of them weren't even on my round, but on another round down the road...
maybe postboxes should be given to the actual rounds they are on!

Your cynicism is well placed, to my mind it's yet another salvo in the war of attrition against LTFT staff. Well they can implement whatever hare-brained anti-logic that they like, I'll continue to start on time to-the-minute and finish on time to-the-minute. Whatever ensuing chaos these fools and their clowncar schemes are responsible for then that's something that they will have to address on their beloved conference calls, I couldn't care less.

Some of the above should be in the walk log (assuming you can find one that isn't two revisions behind).norris9 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 16:02New starts getting lost on new rounds - Give them a basic map of the round and important details

We had these laminates for every duty when P&L came in. I'm sure I've seen updated ones after COLOD was (re)introduced that flag the pillarboxes, but this is just the example I had on hand.

1. Never even been told about this.
2. It would be better if it was in map format. Just giving house numbers and roads isn't good enough for me. Driving down roads looking out for numbers is risky. There should be a X on a map showing the approximate location of the relevant property to park near.

Before you all end up in need of psychiatric help, stop a minute, unless you are a fairly recent employee of RM you will remember how many times these bright ideas have turned up over the years. You will also know how many of these bright ideas have been implemented....... i am struggling to think of any.
They keep trying to reinvent the wheel and failing miserably, the cost over the years must be incredible. At some stage they will realise that in the end it's us guys on the frontline who know best and keep this company afloat, mind you by the time they do realise it could be a new century.

One of my biggest bugbears - especially when i started - no information pretty much at all except posties who had done the walk.It was pretty hit and miss if a walk had a logbook or if it was up to date.
A single sheet of paper with that important relevant information would have been great.

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Delivery 2.0 seems to be now being rolled out to more DO's, you can just see this new process following it, what I can't understand is that around half my packets don't match the duty after scanning them so is that going to be improved so the sorter knows which "block" it goes into? I also assume anything above letter size will have to be scanned not just the Tracked? Still can't understand why they can't be sorted into the grey trays or similar and then the postie who's delivering the round left to place them in the pouches in the correct order they are going to deliver them.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 19:57Before you all end up in need of psychiatric help, stop a minute, unless you are a fairly recent employee of RM you will remember how many times these bright ideas have turned up over the years. Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
The sorting process will take much longer with everyone looking for the right bag to put the packets in. Then when out on the streets you’re going to be fishing around for the parcel you need and finding miss sorts a plenty

Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
There’s also the recognition and memory from sorting the parcels yourself. You know what is in your bag and where it is going. If you haven’t caught sight of something until you are out there, your memory has nothing to go on to remind you of parcels.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑05 Oct 2024, 06:09The sorting process will take much longer with everyone looking for the right bag to put the packets in. This process is specifically designed for delivery 2.0 offices, the one in the video is one.TopperGas wrote: ↑04 Oct 2024, 22:37Delivery 2.0 seems to be now being rolled out to more DO's, you can just see this new process following it, what I can't understand is that around half my packets don't match the duty after scanning them so is that going to be improved so the sorter knows which "block" it goes into? Re: RMCtv: Parcel sortation
Unless the parcels are going to arrive into delivery offices already pre-sorted into Yorks with the various walks (like they do with the buddy trays) its pointless trying to do it this way because it will be far too time consuming for the walk-sorters. Also, many regular customers often order more than one item at a time so if the sorters are just scanning them and banging them into the bags at random, the postie actually doing that round will still need to empty those bags and put them in some sort of order, especially if they are not marked. And obviously they will need to check through the bags anyway to make sure they are not going to the same address twice if they have any larger parcels.
The pouches are always in short supply and most posties tend to keep them locked in their vans so they don't get nicked. I've been asking for months for additional bags and have had to make do with the few that I've got.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
