I just can’t see how it could possibly save on anything because a machine can’t determine what I can carry or what random order I might need to do something because of Specials or a Collection.

There is no machine, they are being hand sorted straight into delivery pouches if you watch the video.

I’ve just watched the video. So instead of us sorting our own parcels into loops and deciding what we can carry, someone else is going to be sorting them into bags.

So the parcels won’t be marked in with the letters?

You know that parcel that you stick in the bag for one loop even though it’s actually on a different loop, but it makes more sense to deliver it with the other loop? That won’t be happening.

According to the notes on MRM, there will be a manifest of all packets for the walk shown in Outdoor so you could just turn the letters/envelopes based on the PDA manifest and move any errant items to the right bag to suit your preference.

Good luck with that at Christmas. You'll need about 6 "pouches" for every "block", and they'll end up all over the place.

So, you're telling me that it isn't myself as the duty holder sorting my own parcels into my own bags, but this is done by all the parcel sorters? Instead of sorting into those red trolleys and Yorks, they sort into bags/pouches instead?

If so, surely there's no chance of this coming into the larger delivery offices - it would be a mess. Each parcel sorter wandering around this 'Pouch Pyramid' getting in each other's way. Parcels will still be missorted and you won't know until you get out on the round. What happens when you go and collect all your bags and need to add the mail? do your bags go on the floor?

In the video the bags are by frames, so I am confused as the dude in the video said that 'it's all done for you'.

This video wasn't clear at all how this works. Who is doing the sorting of these parcels - the parcel sorters, or the person on the round for their own round?

In a sea of utterly stupid and embarrassing ideas that the people in charge come up with , even this is unbelievably stupid.

It will not save time on delivery.

There’s no space in my do for what we have now let alone this.

It relies on everyone getting every single parcel correct.

It will lead to endless missed parcels and missorts.

There’s no times saved for deliveries and in fact it will increase the time taken.

I'm on the new contract so can't say if others on old contracts are affected.
Firstly we were told it's happening and that will be your start time, no if's or but's.
Getting out at 3pm from our depot and hitting traffic is going to slow us down.
Expected to do 20 drops per hour over 5 hours which is going to be impossible.
Just as we come to the nights closing in and working in darkness from 4pm onwards.
And the topping on the cake, you will get a different route each day.

Forget Christmas...the students are back!!! it's absolute chaos here. They come back every new term, you know, with their lovely student finance. And every time it's a total surprise to the management

I was in an '08 plate combi with nearly 130k on it the other day. It was well pass it; everything broken on it - still nippy though. However, the doblos are cr*pping out with 35k on them so honestly the Vauxhall is doing bl*ody fantastic to tell the truth. Hate to see the Fiats at 130,000 miles!

As soon as their beloved tracked start failing, they’ll have to row back on later starts for DPR. Because if a late starting DPR can’t complete, there is literally no time and no other person to clear up.

I was in an '08 plate combi with nearly 130k on it the other day. It was well pass it; everything broken on it - still nippy though. However, the doblos are cr*pping out with 35k on them so honestly the Vauxhall is doing bl*ody fantastic to tell the truth. Hate to see the Fiats at 130,000 miles!

The little Vauxhalls may look ancient but they’re actually great workhorses. The new bigger vans had door failures in year one. Can’t see them being around as long as the Combis.

We’re at Preston South Delivery Office who, alongside Morden Delivery Office, are currently trialling a project to change the way parcels are sorted ahead of walks.

Our aim with the Parcel Sortation project is to simplify how we sort and prep different types of parcels and to make the process more efficient for our frontline colleagues.

This will be done by:

• Format 1 (letterbox size) and Format 2 (shoebox size) parcels being sorted into different containers at the primary sort activity.

• Format 1 parcels are then sorted and bundled into the letter mail on the RM2000 frame.

• With Format 2 parcels being sorted directly into mail pouches attached to the Parcel Pyramid’, each pouch corresponds to each ‘Block’ on the delivery walk. Parcels will be scanned on the PDA which will inform the person sorting, which block to sort the parcel to.

• Letter mail, including the Format 1 parcels are then merged into the pouches with the Format 2 parcels ready for delivery. The earlier scans on the parcels will create a manifest on the PDA, so the walk holder can see what parcels they have for each block.

The use of this new equipment together with utilising new PDA software will help reduce the need for local knowledge when sorting parcels, it will provide a dedicated storage space for parcels along with making the process more efficient for our colleagues.
