Why is it frowned upon to Work Day Off/Early IPS Sorting in Royal Mail ???

I rarely take my day off and I’m not alone in that at my office, it’s commonplace.

Being able to take all your days off is a luxury that many don’t realise is a luxury.

Its not a luxury - its a right not to work 6 days a week.

If you want to work 6 days and get paid then do so, but I don't recommend saying workers rights are a luxury as it could mislead others.

That wasn’t what I meant. I meant that some don’t have a financial reason for having to do overtime. That they can live on their wages is a luxury I do not have- I have to work my day off.

I haven’t done any overtime for about 10 years and I’ve only ever worked my day off twice in 20 years.

I do not need or want to do it.

The person I work with works every day off and does Sundays and also early ips and finishes our delivery. Fair play to them for doing that if that’s what they or anyone wants to do but do it with a goal in mind like my partner does.

No one gets frowned upon for working their days off.

Shouldn't be a issue with anyone working o/t either early or late, i choose not too but in the past was probably classed as one of the o/t kings people mention about.
Times change and now i no longer want or need o/t as the money i earned 10+ yrs ago has given me two houses and no mortgage on either, invest your time and the money you earn wisely when you are young and fit enough, so when you get older you can spend less time in work and hopefully retire early.
As Lou said it's the early starters who work for nothing that tend to be frowned upon.

So why do you give RM the opportunity to "complete" by doing the IPS early.

It doesn't make sense to me.

They enforce later starts and then flood DO's with early starters. Kind of contradicts itself.

I do not care what my co-workers do as i do not care about any of them at all.

Have not done any overtime in many years - partly laziness and partly do not need the money

Come in do my job finish

Want to do overtime help yourself - your life your choice

I know what you mean and despite that if asked I'll sometimes do early ips, it grates on me too, what pisses me off more though is when full timers have left they changed the duties to part time, and then they pay overtime for the ips or prep the full time duty used to do, and it's not just busy periods it's throughout the year. Twats. Rant over.

The incentive is getting an extra £100 a week/400 a month, if you don't need it then it doesn't really matter if it's £12ph or £15ph

Alternatively, the other way of looking at it is that that chunk of overtime covers your deductions.

Nobody is frowning about people working extra and being paid for it. The problems start when people come in early and work for free.

Or when they finish on time and book docket. No problem with people working their day off if that’s what they want.

What "principle"? All people are doing is working extra hours to get extra money.

There’s 24 hours in a day and we are contracted to work anything from 6-8 hours of that day (give or take & depending on employment status). I couldn’t give a flying F..k if someone wants to work the remaining 16 hours of that day, every day, 7 days a week. What the F..k is this strange obsessional behaviour worrying what someone else is or isn’t doing? It’s very weird & is something that has really crept in over the last couple of years. I do wonder if those of you who are so bothered by what your colleagues are doing are like it out of work. Do you constantly watch what your neighbours are doing and then slag them off cos it doesn’t fit with your ideals.

This behaviour has existed a lot longer than the last couple of years, when I started 25 years ago there was plenty of his/her duty is piss easy compared to mine etc

Because for reasons never ever known, a large number of posties spend their days solely worrying about what other posties are doing.

We had an issue at our office where those who did NOT do overtime were actually moaning that they were not being asked

So the DOM started going to them everyday to ask if they wanted overtime....every single time without fail their answer was a NO. They just wanted attention. But although they did not want overtime, they were then slagging off those who DID want overtime, even though it had no effect on them whatsoever.

Here's a simple idea: Let those who want overtime do it, those who don't want overtime....don't.

That one is more on management to be fair. If people are making that amount of time they should be sent out and made to do the extra work to fill their hours.
