Consequential loss cover

Post by Fadi »

Hi, would be great to get your expertises on a matter.

I plan to sell something online for £5k and conscious that the max compensation offered with RM Special delivery is £2.5k, can I buy consequential loss cover to cover the remaining or is consequential loss cover only for important documents such and passports etc and not additional cover for things being sold?

Thanks

Any compensation paid by RM will be based on what IT believes to the value of the item-NOT what the sender states it is.In other words I would look for another way of sending such a high value item.

I don't agree with that. I have had good experiences of claiming in the past, you just need to submit proper receipts.

The normal cover is basically for things you can buy in a shop (or cash) that is in the item. Consequential loss cover is for the knock-on effects of something being late or not delivered, e.g. the cost of the holiday you couldn't go on because your passport arrived late. In general, things can either be covered by the normal compensation or consequential loss, but there isn't much of an overlap in the middle where both are valid. To decide which one is right for this item, you should start with *what* it is you are selling and the method you would use to value it if you had to claim.

Hi!

How do I go about purchasing consequential loss cover? I went through 2 separate post offices trying to send a Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1 pm with legal documents. I kept repeating that I needed "consequential loss cover" and that it is separate from normal cover but at the 1st post office they kept saying they hadn't heard of such and at the 2nd they told me it's the same thing as normal cover. In the end, I ended up getting just normal cover upon their advice as I could not find anyone who would be able to confirm I was getting "consequential loss cover". Is anyone able to clarify this? Has there been changes and is there now just 1 cover for everything?

UPDATE: received an answer here https://royalmailchat.co.uk/community/v ... 6&t=114207
