I am a postie on a new-style contract. We are supposed to have a flexible skill set, and so I do an assortment of DPR, reserve cover, collections, IPS help, etc, etc. Nothing strange or uncommon about that - unless you listen to Barnacle, that is. Here is another bit of evidence confirming I’m a postie.

And yes, I do know what contracts we’re all on. We are a tight-knit team of “new starters” who have gelled and worked together in some cases for over 18 months now. Many of us are now friends outside of work. There are only 25 or so of us at my DO so hardly rocket science.

I was agency before joining permanently. I have been at my DO for 16 months altogether. Others in our cohort have been there for 18 months or more - one started permanently in December 2022 so coming up to two years ago now. Any holes to be picked there?

The new full time contracts are 40 hours and I’m sure they do get given out in some offices around the country.

I can only speak for my office and that we’ve just had a repick where there were apparently 300 jobs and we’ve had about 50 vacancies for the last year or so and not a single one of the new starters that have come through the door have been on a full time 40hr contract.

So I’ve no idea what the criteria is for Royal Mail to offer them out but if any office needed them , then ours would.

Just to throw this in the mix; I was on a 28 hour and something minutes contract spread over 4 days but management considered me full time when it came to seasonal hours.

We are at the point where people are arguing still despite one party clearly presenting evidence that they are right. Welcome to online forums. People can never admit they are wrong.

All new full time contracts IN MY OFFICE are 40 hours. It is why they all have later finish times and are often sent back out if paired up with people on older legacy contracts.

We had a newbie start on tuesday, 20 hr contract. He has been out over 10 hrs for 3 days running as he is on a van share with a non driver trying to learn as he goes. So a 50 hr + week. Madness.
