Trimble Conduct

Post by jbjoe »

Hi all

Can i ask if anyone has been conducted for eg speeding to many times as i heard it cannot be used for disciplinary action.

i have noticed the agreement published in august 2021 does state this but it also says it will be reviewed every 6 months?

Has this changed since then.

Thanks

Anything driving related goes to the bottom of the pile when duties are not being covered

I’ve never heard of anyone being conducted for any data collected by Trimble in our (large) office. A serious chat is what generally happens.

If they are actually clocked speeding, that’s a different story but if it is just the Trimble flagging stuff up and they are going for conduct, they maybe have more of an issue with a person and they’re using Trimble to start the ball rolling.

If they tried that on me I'd be quick to ask how come certain colleagues are exclusively driving hire vans and their driving standards aren't routinely assessed. All staff should be held to the same standard.

Exactly.

And surely the final word on speeding would be a speeding ticket? Not the data from a device which isn’t filming what else is happening on the road.

Not in Wales but have 20mph limits in town. Really not an issue at all.

Pretty certain if an employee is regularly being caught speeding then management have a responsibility to act before they seriously injure or kill somebody in an accident and it becomes a police/CPS matter.

I’d like to know if they have ever successfully sacked someone based on Trimble speeding data and then if that sacking was challenged at a tribunal.

It’s pretty clear the Trimble and PDA data is only useful up to a point. It’s all easily challenged if you are ever pulled by a manager on anything. Unless you are a wrongun of course.

Yeah it would be interesting to know, I don't think you could challenge a sacking though, I'd imagine it's in a similar category to seatbelts in that royal mail specify you have to wear it whilst driving one of their vans, if you don't it's misconduct regardless of what anyone might argue the law/highway code dictates. They also say you must strictly adhere to speed limits so presumably if someone foolishly ignored that simple instruction then they'd leave themselves open to disciplinary measures. I'm sure we've all signed something as drivers that we'll abide to their rules.

It WOULD be interesting to know because it would give an indication of the veracity of Trimble data. Your point about seatbelts is interesting because just today I got into a van with the passenger seatbelt fastened into the driver holder. This is common among the DPRs so catching people out on the seatbelts still requires human observation.

I think anybody challenging a flawed system, and it is flawed just like "Horizon", would win easily and RM would be very wary of going down that road.
