MGV driver

Post by postiewhite »

Hi. Been offered a role as a 7.5T driver on 31 hrs at the mail centre, starting time 4am. Do you know if there are any shifts allowances starting at this time as I'll be losing my £27 delivery supplement but the basic wages are the same but I'll be working 4 less hours per week.? Thank you

Try and get on nights if you can. Better pay, not as much to do, night allowance etc

Obviously it has to depend on family life and stuff but I still see my other half and sleep while she's at work.

There's a surprising amount of family-oriented people who do it.

The money is good and having a duty on distribution is a good job. But doing permanent night shift is seriously bad for your health tbh.

While the medical consensus agrees I guess it depends on the person haha. As much as I love being up and about during the day, I'm not really a people person so it's ideal for me, and I'm fundamentally less stressed than when I was a postie doing days!

Noticed on Royal Mail careers, 24 new MGV advert posts countrywide. As an external candidate, I have re-applied for Wolverhampton NWMC having made the massive mistake of not taking the role when offered back in August. I hope I make it through again this time. Anyone else going through the process ?
I was placed on a waiting list by HR, but have since been told I will need to wait for all other candidates to been seen and interviewed first. Fingers crossed

I've applied , I'm hoping that I can finally get off delivery . 30 years is enough for me. I'm willing to take any job, part time-fulltime and won't have to think twice if offered one. Foot in the door with a bit of seniority should see me ok futher down the line hopefully if I can get onto the mgv side

I don't know how much it is but you definitely get a shift allowance with a 4am start. I recommend going to mgv to everyone that asks, it's a no brainer.
Edit. A quick search has brought up a list of shift allowances, not sure if they're up to date but the hours are still correct.

Thanks, I did think the lack of walking after 30 years of it might affect my waistline

Congratulations, where are you based ?
I have re-applied for MGV ( external candidate ) after stupidly not taking the role offer back in August. The posts were re-advertised 3 weeks ago so I'm hoping I've got another chance. Fingers crossed.
