Always been seniority at our place and I know posters will be on saying that’s illegal.

Our office does it in two batches and turnabout. So juniors pick first one year, seniors the next.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
We are split into 4 blocks based upon seniority, Top 25% in block 1, next 25% in block 2 etc. Blocks are rotated in order each year to vary who picks first.
Having said that, we haven't even started the leave pick yet, and the area manager is insisting that it has to be completed. by the end of September. Our COM says that he, "Hasn't had time" to organise it yet. He should maybe stop clearing off home early every day.

Seniority is not illegal. As long as it's part of an objective criteria seniority can be used for allsorts of decisions.chickenwittle wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 10:31Always been seniority at our place and I know posters will be on saying that’s illegal.

Nowt from the CWU despite offices being asked to get the leave done asap. The Way Forward remains the way to agree what's happening with leave for 25/26.

What exactly would the "objective criteria" be in the case of annual leave allocation?tramssirhc wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 15:54Seniority is not illegal. The use of seniority is not in line with our national agreements (TWF) and it screws over the part time staff.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
The Way Forward clearly states seniority can be used for leave arrangements. Really the agreement should be called The Seniority Forward. There's more mentions of seniority than anything else. The Rolls Royce case ruled that seniority can be used in all decisions but it must be objective and not the sole decision criteria.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 16:17What exactly would the "objective criteria" be in the case of annual leave allocation?tramssirhc wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 15:54Seniority is not illegal. Does it? Where?tramssirhc wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 16:42

What it actually states is:
All employees will be included on an equal basis whether full or part time. (p 19)
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
The fairest way is to NOT use seniority to pick leave weeks first all the time. We are all workers of equal status so junior members must have an opportunity to pick first in order to keep it fair.

Everyone gets 3 picks, then 2 or 3 in the next round depending on seniority, if a week is overbooked, then lots are drawn.

We haven’t ever agreed before, Barnacle, but we are ad idem on this one. Seniority should not be one of the criteria used to determine holiday picks.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
Shocking, but not really surprised if offices are still using seniority to decide holidays.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
There is no seniority when it comes to annual leave allocation and the sooner you know what weeks off you have for the following year the better imho.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Holiday picks ..how are offices doing it
I guess the problem in large offices is that to use a rotating rota/League, whereby if you pick 1st this year you are last next year, is difficult to keep track of. There's only 10 of us and we use this and at the moment i am 3rd from bottom.
Bring back seniority!! Then i'd be 4th from bottom...... oh wait hardly worth it.
Reckon i will be top of the list 2yrs after retirement age.
