TBT, I have to date shared on this forum: (i) a redacted copy of my offer letter; (ii) a screenshot from MyPerformance of activity for 11 September; (iii) excerpts from my payslip; and (iv) a photo of me stood at the rear of my van. I don’t know what else I can do to prove my bona fides. As I hope you will appreciate, it is difficult/impossible for me to prove or disprove a negative.

As I recall you said you started as a postie having previously worked at Amazon and then with an agency working for Royal Mail, so I don't know why anyone would doubt you. Why would people assume you're not who you say you are?

I think it might be due to a North/South divide when it comes to delivery offices. No one finishes at 11.30 in our office and I once trained a guy who was from down South years ago who said how cushy some of the duties were in London and how much overtime they could claim within their hours as managers were that desperate to clear walks. I am going back about a decade though and thinking back now, he only lasted a week!
I think it’s just a case of certain forum members resorting to baseless allegations when they have no sensible or logical argument to what is being said.

They’re definitely not all cushy like this one. As far as I know, this is the only duty in my office that can be done so quickly. And just to clarify, the duty-holder doesn’t finish it at 11.30 am latest — he “longs it out” until 2.45 pm each and every day and complains very loudly about how difficult it is, so much so that he can never lapse, never take out large for the adjoining paired walks, often refuses to do his own large, etc, etc.
Your work colleague, the duty holder, who is now off sick: what is his finish time? How old is he? Is there a reason he is off sick?

Tearing back at 11.30, I assume you do not take a morning break? Did you put together D2Ds? Do anything else in the office other than prep the walk you were taking?

It’s not a good idea to help managers to pick who to get rid off. Especially not amongst the experienced members of staff.

His finish time is 2.45 pm. He is 55. He is off sick because he doesn’t like one of our cover managers — “stress”! He is a bully who is now having the tables turned on him. His ugly face looks like the monster from Not Now Bernard - think purplish-green tinge. Horrible old racist git. I personally think it’s a great idea to get rid of people like him, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit to hear you think it is a bad idea. What should I do? Slow down so I don’t show him up for the lazy, workshy, racist thug that he is?

As for me, I don’t “tear” anywhere, thank you. I work at a comfortable but efficient pace, no more. The difference with me is that there is a method and process with everything I do. Fail to prepare = prepare to fail. My way of work doesn’t call for any tearing about. Even on busy days I take time out while on delivery to have a breather, grab a cup of coffee, nip into a local cafe to grab a sandwich. Indeed, on busy days it is the first thing I do before making a single delivery.

It all sounds a bit extreme, it's hard to believe any duty can be done most days in a couple of hours. If it can fair play to the duty officer for managing to achieve it!

Extreme but true.

The duty holder never finishes it at 11.30 am. As I say, he longs it out until his finish time. It has only been me finishing it at 11.30 am. The full time reserve who normally covers the duty — and has been doing for at least six years — has admitted he could easily finish it at 11.30 am too, but he makes a point of also “longing it out” like the dutyholder. To slow himself down sufficiently, the usual reserve only takes half the duty out at a time, then returning to the office for the other half at about 11.00 am. Both the duty holder and usual reserve also 739 an inordinate number of packages each day so that the workload seems much higher than it is. All very bizarre and unfair.

It sounds like it takes more effort to apparently drag it out than just have extra work, writing 739's and bringing parcels/packets back is probably one of the worse aspects of the job

If you can’t deliver something, you can’t deliver something. It’s not something you manipulate in order to string out a job is it?!

Yeah you'd have thought if they really wanted to string it out they'd tit about trying about 10 neighbours, bringing it back is probably the easiest option despite the extra time required to book the items back in and redeliver next day, oh hang on maybe they genuinely do that and find that no one's in, who knows.

I am going to take a punt here, i take it you don't like this person, if so it's clouding your judgement. The person at fault here is the manager, he gets paid to manage his office, you get paid to deliver mail and parcels on whatever duty they require you to and for the hours they pay you.
That is it, you calling out a fellow worker just makes you look like a company lackey, it's not for you to make judgement on anybody that's a managers job.
Perhaps that's why people may or may not accuse you of being a manager or maybe i am looking at this wrong, in which case i apologise in advance.

I think somewhere she says it is a firms duty.
We have people who know a business won't be open early but go there anyway so they can docket any parcels and although they pass it on their way back to the office when it is open, refuse to go again because "the rules are they only gey one delivery attempt".

There is no accounting for the number of bellends this company employs.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I can’t in good conscience disagree with your observation that my dislike for this person perhaps clouds my judgement - it clearly does to some extent. But even looking at it as objectively as I can, there is a massive disparity in workload here, and it is causing resentment even among longstanding staff with much harder duties.

Yeah everyone likes moaning about so and so’s walk which is so much easier but it’s not the fault of your work colleague who is off sick - a little compassion wouldn’t go amiss - it is the fault of the managers at your office, who failed to do a proper revision. It’s on them. They can amend it, but choose not to. The blame sits at their door.

You're absolutely correct there, although dwindling we still have a hefty amount of bellends, I suspect the duty involved is a bit of a relic from the past that never evolved, you remember when firms received s**t loads of mail, firms duties had their own "mini" drop bag fittings whereas now a few letters daily is normal, I can imagine this character has been left well alone for years by s**t management, presumably on Saturdays the delivery aspect of the duty is a joke.

Some firms walks used to get a couple of full boxes, sometimes 3 without fail on wave 2, now they don't even get half a box some days

To get back on topic. The trouble or the truth is that the CWU became as lazy as any duty holder mentioned above. They didn't step in ten years ago when duties were being extended beyond reasonable. "Let it fail" was the catchphrase of every rep that came in, even when humiliated by Moya Greene, did they learn? No the just exhaled a huge sigh of collective relief when she stepped aside. Learnt nothing, so simply carried on the way.

So they now within the RM part of the union find themselves unrecognised. I hope that they do actually learn something this time.
