MGV role thoughts(7.5T delivering the mail to DO's)

I've been shortlisted for an MGV role from being a postie and I want to know if anyone either knows someone or has advise on it.
I applied through Success factors a week ago, the pay is £608 before tax but does say can be weekend work includig Sunday. Contract 38 hrs over 3,4 or 5 days. Personally I don't want to work every Saturday and Sunday but it maybe on a rotation system.

Is it something I should go for if they do give me the job or something to avoid?

We have had a number of Delivery Posties come across to Distribution, not one of them regrets it.
You will probably come across as a reserve covering all shifts but if you have plans for a certain wkend they can have chat with office PHG & things can be changed.
My advice is go for it, your body will thank you for it.

After all these year I now realise who the XXXXL (yes, quadruple) items are aimed at.

Honestly, we are not that ruddy big!
My duty might revolve around the best donuts in town but most of us are not that big!
The delivery posties generally put on a few pounds in first few months, then realise they don’t have to eat as much!

Out of interest how often do these jobs come up within Royal Mail? Considering getting my MGV licence in the hope of transferring over to distribution side of things as like most im pig sick of delivery. Willing to be patient for a couple of years if needs be but don’t want to fork out all that money if it’s unlikely I would have a chance in the future?

Often is the answer, those with Grandfather rights are on the downward slope now so passing your test is very much a positive.

Thanks for the reply. Was already leaning towards going and getting the license but this response might have been the last little nudge needed

They advertised a few years ago for people to apply and they'd pay for your licence. Our dom quickly took it down as he didn't want to lose staff. Gutted I didn't apply now as a few did and enjoy it.

We lost our Docket Emperor that way. Only reason the DOM didn't do the same was because he was moving to another office and didn't care if ours collapsed without the man-machine being out till mid evening. His absence was distinctly noticeable on all the lapsed duties. Saw him on the M6 once!

Hi. Had a call from Admin. He says there are 33hour duties available now Tuesday to Saturday 4am til 10am which I suppose I would get best part of a 3 day weekend off every week. He says the pay would be better than my current 35 hour contract as a postie but I'm not sure how much more. He also said there are always lots of jobs advertised for more hours.

Second option is 38 hours on reserve but I would get to pick my shifts up to 4 weeks in advance (some are 3 long days, some 4 days and some 5 days). 90% of the time I'd get what I want so I would work "odd" Sundays, that wage I think is over £600 a week less tax, more with Sunday allowance.

Surely this is better than being a postie the way things are going in the DO's

From my point of view the 35hrs is nice, not to much to learn route wise & a routine you can plan your own life around.
Overtime will always be available when you want it with advantage of learning different duties at your own pace.
But I am not a youngster anymore & you might like being on something different every wk.
As previously said, not had one complaint regarding posties moving over.
