Offices have always been staffed with a sensible number of floaters and reserves. If an office has exceptionally high periods of sickness, cover has always been provided by posties on overtime and spare reserves from neighbouring offices. Failing to keep a reasonable system like this in place and instead just lumping unlimited, unbounded workloads onto posties who already have more than enough of their own work to do is not a sustainable model and our union should never have accepted it.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 05:09It’s precisely this type of inflexibility that needs eradicating pronto from RM. Mate, its a bit weird coming on here pretending not to be a manager when its clear to most of the forum you are never the female postie you claim you are.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 05:09It’s precisely this type of inflexibility that needs eradicating pronto from RM. So does it really matter if she is a postie or manager.
We do not want opinions from others viewpoints shut down because people are anti manager or anti postie. Managers opnions are just as valid as Posties as long as trhey are expressed in a polite and non confrontational manner. I mean we even have it in our rules viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11169
So please stop with this your a manager crap, it makes no differemce.

We are massively under resourced because the changes they are requesting re the USO will mean job losses.
They aren't going to fully staff an office knowing that soonish they will be having to make people redundant.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

They have an ongoing VR scheme. So they are cutting away at the upper end and trimming away at the bottom with understaffing. We used to have several floaters per division but they no longer exist.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 14:48We are massively under resourced because the changes they are requesting re the USO will mean job losses.

I am not a manager. I shall take it as a backhanded compliment, however, that you feel I have a managerial skill set and am thus, on your thought process, above your good self in the RM hierarchy! Who’d have thought a peasant new entrant like myself would be considered by the old guard to be above them in the RM foodchain? To use some text speak, LMFAO! I would last all of two minutes as an RM manager as I wouldn’t suffer any fools. For the final time, I am an OPG.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 07:58Mate, its a bit weird coming on here pretending not to be a manager when its clear to most of the forum you are never the female postie you claim you are.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 05:09It’s precisely this type of inflexibility that needs eradicating pronto from RM. The problem is that lots of posties don’t “already have more than enough of their own work”. Many are getting away with blue murder, while others do - as you say - already have more than enough of their own work. For the past fortnight I have been covering a dream of a supposed “full time” duty that I have managed to have finished by 11.30 am latest even on a Thursday! The dutyholder has plenty of scope to do other work but refuses. The writing is on the wall for this chap, and talk is now that he won’t be coming back off sick leave. Us new entrants regularly have longstanding staff telling us to slow down as we are making them “look bad”.nuisance wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 06:33Offices have always been staffed with a sensible number of floaters and reserves. If someone is masquerading as a postie when they are a manager or vice versa then of course it matters - especially when their opinions are often inflammatory in nature designed to get people's backs up. Managers should be allowed to post freely but people who clearly are managers but pretending to be 'new starts' and such like and trolling? Nah, I dont want to be part of a forum where a moderator thinks its ok for such practises to go on so im done with this place.

Re: Dave Ward ''Watch out for a Royal Mail scandal''.
We do seem to be going off topic a bit but regarding those who tend to pull a semi-regular sickie, the sick absence policy has now changed and fewer posties are going on sick due to reduced occupational sick pay after the first absence of a 12 month rolling period. RM were always going to do this because sick absence was costing the business around £250 million a year
https://cwuse5.org.uk/wp-content/upload ... ements.pdf
However, sick absence is not the main reason why duties are failing - they are failing because managers are not adequately staffing duties to save on the office budget.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

We do indeed. I am going to delete the photos above soon but want to have at least someone say they have seen them. Do they confirm I am a manager or a postie?

Let’s face it, the staff just aren’t there to fill the vacancies, it’s not the job it was and a complete lack of direction means nobody would consider this a career choice anymore, it’s a filler job at bestclashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 18:19They are not adequately staffing duties to avoid compulsory redundancies.postslippete wrote: ↑14 Sep 2024, 18:17..... they are failing because managers are not adequately staffing duties to save on the office budget.
