Why do people still wear the old blue shirts? Are they officially allowed to? You don’t see Tesco employees wearing obsolete uniform.

Shirts are more comfortable... and no way am I wearing red

Appreciate and respect that that is your — and others’ — personal preference, but my question was more about whether you are actually allowed/permitted by RM to wear obsolete blue uniform.

Iirc when the latest uniform was rolled out there was a ruling that you can't wear the old stuff including "mix and match". Anyway I'm also firmly in the old blue shirts gang as for me they're more comfortable plus I like the chest pockets for p739s and a pen, I'm not the only one at our place with this preference, I think this is an issue that should be way down at the bottom of any managers list of things that require attention.

Thanks for clarifying for me. Personally I prefer the red uniform as the blue shirt is (imho) quite blokey.

I am glad they’re not stringent with uniform as I will often wear a cardigan or hoodie if the weather is wet (like today) as my arms sweat like mad if I just have the stormproof on, and I also like to wear my own shorts/trousers and footwear as I don’t like theirs. I find the pockets on the RM high-vis handy to carry 739s and pens, though the pockets only last a couple of months before disintegrating completely. In colder weather I put them in my cargo trousers pocket.

Still wear the blue shirts got 4 unopened that I will probably open in 2025, hate the red shirts, blue ones are perfect for phone and pen in right hand side top pocket headphones and security badge in left hand side, can't imagine all the fiddling around people have to do wearing polo shirts.

I've never worn the polos for the same reasons and also the fact that per the 1999 guidelines in place when I started: "Polo shirt must not be worn on customer-facing duties."

If only it was still in force... "[the tie] must be worn (with the shirt) on Enquiry Office and Door keeping/receptionist duties, and is strongly encouraged for all customer-facing duties".

I saw someone wearing one of these jackets in Leeds last week. Strictly speaking it's blue uniform era (1985 - c. 1996), but it's red so maybe a line manager with a whole 2¾ years service wouldn't know to conduct someone.

Same, I'm planning on wearing them in winter including the plastic ones, trying to prolong my last lot of blue shirts for another year or so, and yeah I like the latest jackets prefer them to the fleeces you can fit the PDA in the front pockets.
