Ask Martin Walsh. He declared on YouTube the other week we could make 25 minutes a day and counter the effects of later starts. Absolute rubbish. Members were lucky to get their 10 minutes back, let alone 25.
I feel for you guys. The other week on Facebook Martin Walsh implied that getting hours down from 39 to 37 was an achievement, forgetting that the "flight path" was 35 hours and newbies are on 40.
I do wonder if long term it'll end up with everyone being back on 40hrs

I am fairly confident that the next pay agreement will involve an increase to basic FT hours.

The Union would have a hard job selling the hourly rate yet again being squeezed but the weekly increase, lump sum and innate knowledge that the Union don’t actually have any ammunition to use should see it agreed across the board.

We have been absorbing because we have been understaffed. This week is the first week we haven’t because we have taken on some new starters.

But why would your office need to take on more staff if you already didn't have enough traffic to fill the summer hours? Surely the staffing levels in your office are more than adequate if you had to absorb and still made over 30 minutes at the end of the day? :hmmmm

We have been recruiting new starters mainly because loops are being left behind not because the work has been completed everyday.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

My office is clearly a mystery. I spoke to my union rep today and we are due for a revision in the new year and the geo route is saying that rounds are too big so there is also that.

All I can think is we have a significant percentage of idiots still starting early which is making absorption a possibility for 1-2 rounds a day in a big office. My bet is you can’t really manage a delivery office taking that as a given.

Following our botched, cost cutting revision 18 months ago, my office has never cleared. Now we are having another revision to put duties back into the office with full union involvement.

Or at least, that’s what we were told. It seems the planner has a different agenda. 5 hour delivery spans and reintroduction of DPR routes, which were pulled after 3 months into our last revision because they didn’t save them enough money.

Basically, it’s the same revision as before but with longer delivery spans so we can deliver more. There is no increase in staff, later arrival times and apparently most of the indoor work will be done by the pixies. The seasonal variations don’t make any difference. They royally fu***d my office up, they’re determined to keep it so

Unless it saves RM money, its very unlikely that them duties will get put back into your office. Budget is king 100% of the time everywhere these days

That doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you are still on job and finish. Otherwise you clock out on time anyway. The whole seasonal variation idea is an utter shambles no matter what office you work in.
Clumsy wording on my part. Martin Walsh stated that we could negate the effect of later finishes through seasonal variation and that seasonal variation was reducing the finish time by 25 minutes. Members all over the country struggled to finish at the seasonal variation finish time due to the workload.
Regardless of whether they are struggling, they have a finish time and it’s their choice to stay out later than that time I’m afraid.

The point in seasonal hours is to have longer days in winter, and shorter ones during the quieter summer periods. Obviously. We can argue how quiet summer actually is nowadays, but it's obviously quieter than November and December are gonna be so it's logical. Whilst annoying, particularly when we're doing later finishes on a Saturday come December, I'd sooner this than lapsing which has always been a disaster at our place.

The whole geo-route and agreements thing is irrelevant. Revisions are ultimately done to serve budgets and taking hours out of offices and nothing will be done to alter this.

That is the point. They are putting hours back in which has been confirmed by management. I’m not alone as someone else mentioned similar here a few pages back.

That's not actually true. They botched our revision a few years ago when they forced one through. It was when you could apply for redundancy and the company announced the 10,000 job losses. They were also taking the oversized off the rounds, and putting DPR routes in. The union were refusing to cooperate with the revision because of the industrial action, so a manager basically forced one through without georoute. It was a total disaster. Fast forward 6 months, georoute did it and the result was 10 being made upto full time and four duties going back into the office.

Could do with a bit of that at our office. Did they ditch the DPR?

No, but that has been a bit of a disaster because they can't get the staff to do it. Result has been many doing their own oversized still on overtime. We get paid an hour to do it, and you can still do it in your time quieter days as you get your own van, so it's actually worked out well for a number of us.
