More changes. Over 20 years of working at RM. I have experienced many operational changes. None has ever worked either for the benefit of the company or the workforce.

It's still one less job in the job market, I find it hard to believe that going from 6 days a week to alternative days for 2c will only result in 1,000 job losses, unless the other 1,000's no longer required are presently unfilled vacancies?chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 13:30No because it’s your choice.TopperGas wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 13:19If you lose your job via EVR then it's still a job lost?chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:24There aren’t thousands of jobs at risk , Royal Mail is chronically understaffed and loads would accept EVR if offered.tramssirhc wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:04Thousands of jobs at risk and where's the Comms department? No less an authority that Terry Pullinger stated that one days reduction in the USO would result in thousands of jobs being lost. The CWU met EP Group on the 27th August so Martin Walsh said. Again nothing from the CWU.TopperGas wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 16:05It's still one less job in the job market, I find it hard to believe that going from 6 days a week to alternative days for 2c will only result in 1,000 job losses, unless the other 1,000's no longer required are presently unfilled vacancies?chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 13:30No because it’s your choice.TopperGas wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 13:19If you lose your job via EVR then it's still a job lost?chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:24There aren’t thousands of jobs at risk , Royal Mail is chronically understaffed and loads would accept EVR if offered.tramssirhc wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:04Thousands of jobs at risk and where's the Comms department? One working day later and still silence from the Comms department.

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
I know, this ridiculous idea is doomed to failure, remember when it first reared it's ugly head and they produced all the scenarios for example someone delivering parcels + 1st class for three duties, this coupled with allegedly reducing the duty sizes to allow for delivering two days of the rest of the mail, no chance of the baboons they've got running do's being capable of implementing this.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 13:13Ah s**t here we go again… Just knock Saturdays on the head and make it overtime to deliver parcels for those who want it.
As you say mail mon-fri, parcels sat, it's so simple.

The snails pace at which Ofcom work at really is something to behold. But reading between the lines it looks as though the way we work is going to drastically change somewhere between late 2025 and Early 2027.
If you think delivery offices are screwed now just wait until these changes are implemented it’s going to be hilarious.

Would work if someone with at least half a brain sorts it, times have changed, not as much mail Sat/Mon these days, sort out attendance times maybe make Monday a longer day to accommodate, small sacrifice for more Saturdays off.

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
I don't the USO to be reduced at all, because any reduction in it is going to lead to job losses. But, in reality, it is impossible to justify a 6 day letter service now. The union need to go after the Mon - Friday letters, then parcels Saturday model. More Saturday's off, and letter volumes are that light Monday's anyway it doesn't make that much difference taking what will be effectively two days out. The proposals for alternate days on second class just sound unworkable, and convoluted. If that's what Royal Mail see as the biggest option to save money though, they'll be pushing hard for it no doubt.

In that scenario it'll be down to the DOs to hold back the 2C, we'll process it as normal and run it along with the 1C as normalTopperGas wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 10:42It seems most of today's press articles haven't really understood what OFCOM are actually proposing, as it seems to me that they they intend accepting RM's proposals to move to 2c only being delivered on alternative days, along with no 2c deliveries on a Saturday.
I'm not sure why the representative from OFCOM didn't explain that on the BBC Breakfast News, as suggesting RM would make £300m savings from just scrapping Saturday 2c deliveries made no sense.

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
So only 1st class mail and parcels on a Saturday?
In many offices that will mean Wed,Thu,Fri AND Saturday first class mail that hasn't been out 4 days plus packets.

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
I don't see how this saves any time or at least any significant time. We wouldn't deliver 2nd class mail on Saturday, or possibly alternate days based on whichever source/article you are reading... but on the days we do deliver 2nd class mail we'd have double 2nd class mail. How does this save any time?
Is the aim to push people into sending letters via 1st class delivery, which I'd assume must make the company more money as it's more expensive? and essentially aim to kill off 2nd class mail?

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
The whole point of Second Class being introduced in the 60s was to take pressure off getting everything delivered on time. The intention here is to redefine the 2C targets to be even more lax, because killing off 2C would just increase 1C mail blowing that target too.
The machine stops.
