if it happens then the Friday night mech will probably just get sent out as manual as there won't be enough mail with just 1C to justify running the machines

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
So RM wanted 2c reduced to every other day apart from Saturday OFCOM have decided to just cut Saturday deliveries!
Do they really need months more of consultations just to agree to such a move?

So it will actually create more work in the mornings but management will say you can take extraSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 07:50if it happens then the Friday night mech will probably just get sent out as manual as there won't be enough mail with just 1C to justify running the machines
In the end I imagine a lot of posties won't see a difference as they're taking 2-3 days mail a day anyway, so 2nd class will still go on a Saturday.

Oh...those those things that happen occasionally but only because the frames are so full literally can't squeeze another letter in there.
Can't wait for 2.0 and all the "efficient" space saving double slots come in, I'm very curious to see where all the letters will be stored ready for the weekly (if lucky) walk about

Re: Second class letter deliveries on Saturdays could be cut
It seems most of today's press articles haven't really understood what OFCOM are actually proposing, as it seems to me that they they intend accepting RM's proposals to move to 2c only being delivered on alternative days, along with no 2c deliveries on a Saturday.
I'm not sure why the representative from OFCOM didn't explain that on the BBC Breakfast News, as suggesting RM would make £300m savings from just scrapping Saturday 2c deliveries made no sense.

Thousands of jobs at risk and where's the Comms department? They've got one job

The CWU have an opportunity here over the next few months to negotiate better shift patterns and better start and finish times , we all know Royal Mail want to change things so let’s see if our union can make things work in our favour for a change, I won’t hold my breath.

There aren’t thousands of jobs at risk , Royal Mail is chronically understaffed and loads would accept EVR if offered.tramssirhc wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:04Thousands of jobs at risk and where's the Comms department? They've got one job

Ah s**t here we go again… Just knock Saturdays on the head and make it overtime to deliver parcels for those who want it.

If you lose your job via EVR then it's still a job lost?chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:24There aren’t thousands of jobs at risk , Royal Mail is chronically understaffed and loads would accept EVR if offered.tramssirhc wrote: ↑05 Sep 2024, 12:04Thousands of jobs at risk and where's the Comms department? On news just now, BBC stated Mon wed Fri one week and Tue Thu week after for second class. 1st class 6 days including magazines! RM stating less than 1000 redundancies, all voluntary.
