I think transmission is far more costly than storage. As I recall, when the second generation of PDAs were being rolled out in late 2016 we had to go back to using the Intermec bricks because RM hadn't paid EE for enough bandwidth. The old ones hardly ever had a live connection on account of the atrocious battery life so it wasn't possible to operate a continuous data-grab.

As we see with Delivery 2.0, the purpose of all that data is to remotely micromanage offices. The loss of autonomy would be an admirable attempt to reassert a national service worthy of pride, except for the fact it gets demonstrably worse.

I think the savings were from the next stage where the computer would spit out a list of what you could do each day i.e. glorified lapsing. Quiet day...have another loop

Which is all well and good until it's a really quiet day and then once the work has been divided up then it's discovered you have too many staff. What happens to these people? They sent home, sent to another office (who may well be in same position re staff)?
