The moral of the story is to always consider that you are being watched.

Ring doorbell footage has caught the disturbing moment that a postman stood by a person’s shoe rack and appears to take a sniff of a trainer.

Footage of what happened in Torry, an area of Aberdeen, at 11.25am yesterday, was shared to social media by mum-of-two Jade Mullen.

In the video he can be seen standing outside a flat shuffling through letters before he posts them through a letterbox.

But he then walks towards the shoe rack and then takes a pause before picking up a white trainer.

The postman then appears to sniff this before he walks off back down the stairs.

‘I would just like to let everyone know just to watch out for this postman, he tried to get our ring door bell off our door then turned around to sniff my daughters shoes – what an absolute creep,’ Jade posted.

People on social media responded to the video and one said: ‘I don’t think he’s sniffing the shoes. I think he’s looking at the size of them.’

Another said: ‘Wow that’s very weird behaviour.’

A third wrote: ‘What a creep! This is what our Great Britain has become.’

A fourth added: ‘Omg!! I hope you’ve reported this that’s terrible of him that’s very very strange behaviour.’

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of the footage circulating on social media.

‘We expect the highest standards from our posties and take any breach of those standards seriously. Local management is aware and is actively carrying out further enquiries.’

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘We received a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Balnagask Circle area of Aberdeen on Wednesday, 28 August.

‘Enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established. Suitable advice was given.’

This side of the story is never mentioned. All you post persons who have been at RM since the dinosaurs probably never consented to being filmed on everyone's driveway. If you were to refuse to deliver to those addresses what would happen legally. I don't particularly like it and I enjoyed after 1984 became reality.

Far more crimes would be solved by simply rotating the camera (for it is not a doorbell) 180°. That might give the breathlessly indignant pause before condeming others.

"If you give me six seconds of hidden camera footage of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him."

I don't have a problem with CCTV because of the first two letters: Closed Circuit. My image being captured is a matter between me and the resident or owner. Necessarily tresspassing, I consent in that regard. My problem with these internet connected cameras is that there is a third party to whom I have substantial objections.

In the case of Ring I do not believe Amazon should be allowed to construct a massive network of cameras throughout the Western world that outstrips the coverage even the government can attain, regardless of the legitimacy of individuals erecting a camera on their property. The Stasi could not have recruited this many curtain twitchers.
The machine stops.

I doubt it would get in the press if this guy wasn't wearing a RM uniform?

Was obviously working for RM, but the fact that he was wearing a full sleeve non-branded nylon yellow hi-viz in Summer (a bit sweaty
to say the least) and black T-shirt suggests to me that he may not be 'proper' RM. However, he's obviously still representing
the company so behaviour is a bit unusual to say the least.

Sometimes I wish I had a go-pro to film some of the behaviour we see/are subjected to!

That’s what it looked like to me too. There is no view of him ‘sniffing’ the trainers at all and yet the clip and the accusation has been plastered all over social media and picked up by the Metro?!

His face isn’t even blurred out.

People are ready to assume the worst and then publicly shame you.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’
