Manager calling on rest week
Fairly new starter, this week was my first rest week, and was looking forward to having a longer one with the bank hol, however in the week my manager called me asking me to come in friday and today, i felt under pressure to say yes as im still new.. Is it right they can call you up when your off work begging you to come in?

No it isn’t
Just tell them you need a break
Or tell them you want triple OT to come in

Could be wrong and I'm sure I will be corrected, but this contacting employees while not at work will be illegal without the employees permission soon. I'm sure I heard some where labour are bringing it into workers rights. And this post shows the reason why it should be a workers right not to be contacted while not at work, placing pressure on people to work when they should be resting and recuperating.

Re: Manager calling on rest week
I've blocked my manager's number, it's the easiest way.
I am not important (or paid) enough to be contacted out of hours, and during work hours he can call me on the PDA if it's so urgent it can't wait til I get back to the office.

You are correct, it’s a law called something like, ‘the right to switch off’, and it’s to give workers the right to ignore work communications out of hours.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

No a manager shouldn’t call you and ask you anything when you are off. If you have a union rep at your work, tell them and then they will remind the manager of their duty not to harass staff when off.fadetogrey63 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 07:27Fairly new starter, this week was my first rest week, and was looking forward to having a longer one with the bank hol, however in the week my manager called me asking me to come in friday and today, i felt under pressure to say yes as im still new.. Thanks, im not in the union so doubt the rep will want to know, .. if it happens again ill try to be more assertive and just say no, or ignore the call as sugested by others

Re: Manager calling on rest week
If you keep saying "yes" they'll keep calling, i'm not even sure Labour's change of rules will make much difference as RM will just say they are checking if somebody wants to work additional hours rather than calling you to discuss work issues as such, they'll probably be something in the rules to allow employers to do that, otherwise how will be contact employees who are content to work when asked?fadetogrey63 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 07:27Fairly new starter, this week was my first rest week, and was looking forward to having a longer one with the bank hol, however in the week my manager called me asking me to come in friday and today, i felt under pressure to say yes as im still new.. Where does it say harass? As usual on here cuntish behaviour prevails and the cancer continues to be spread. I’ve been contacted on weeks off and sometimes I’ll go in and help and other times I’ll stay off if I can’t be bothered. I’d use something like this to lean on my com further down the line for days off that I want, but sure you do youSean06 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 17:09They should'nt be harrassing staff at anytime.Barnacle wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 16:12No a manager shouldn’t call you and ask you anything when you are off.
