How’s everyone getting on with the new trucks ? So far I’ve heard that many 17t’s have had to go back to DAF due to engine management issue, 7half’s have problem with tail lifts, and Renault units need to have 5th wheel remounted at £3,000 each. I guess one should question the abilities of the clown that arranged the unit spec and failed so dismally but I guess it won’t matter.

This is where the old maxim came from :- "Buy cheap, buy twice"

The clowns have run Royal Fail for the last twenty years on this premise.

They swoop in, slash and burn and take the bonuses then f**k off to the next one.

By buying these trucks on the cheap they make their money, leaving behind a long line of repairs and replacement parts costing shed loads of money.

The same thing is happening with the parcel sort machines at the moment.

This is why they keep quoting losing a million pounds a day, it's not because posties are overpaid and underworked, it's because they are putting right all the mistakes made over the twenty years.

Have only seen 3 out of 16 scheduled units, 1 at another VOC has allegedly threw a piston already, haven’t seen any 17T’s yet and our local MC has a few 7.5T’s that can’t be used cos there are software issues on the ECU’s. Another stunning success no doubt these units will be expected to do 1.5M kms before they go for renewal! The money that is wasted on Daf’s is mind blowing, it says something when an iveco is now considered by the industry to be a better vehicle. Oh my days

Iveco must have improved greatly over the last few years. I recall when we had some a few years ago the interiors fell apart more than the MANs, with the dashboard held together with tape and lots of buttons / switches falling off. As for the MANs, the switches were falling off as soon as we had them but this blamed on us using cleaning wipes during covid. It never affected the DAFs though. Of course the MANs were bought without a service plan but have been found to be less reliable than much older DAFs, and the parts cost 3x more, and can take weeks to be sourced.

The diesel Iveco's we have are a bag of s**t, all have fallen apart. They also tick over and run at a higher rev rate meaning less m per g. Travel any distance in these and you're almost crippled. They are fantastic for shunting though.
We also have Bio methane Iveco's which had a problem with cutting out after starting, but these are half decent units (Only half). They do bounce around a lot though.
The Bio methane Scania's are a good unit, but the sliding 5th wheel is not needed unless you're a big lad/lass. Also the windows don't go all the way down.

The best unit's in my opinion are the old 6 legger Daf's. They are solid, don't bounce around and are good pullers. If only Royal Mail could buy new ones of these.
I've attached a photo of the new 4 legger Daf's we have. Hopefully a good solid unit.
