How bad is RM now?
I left over a year ago, due to the place being a total f***ing shambles...
What's the status now, from the people on the ground?

You know how they don’t really know exactly why or what Stone Henge was built for? Delivery Offices are now run by managers who seem to have forgotten why or what Royal Mail is for.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Re: How bad is RM now?
Yeah, a contributing factor for me leaving was because Royal Mail unilaterally decided that delivering letters was optional. The managers also consistently misreported failed mail, and scanned all the failed tracked items fraudulently too.

Literally nothing has changed for me in the last year. I start on time and finish on time much like the 20 years i have done before.

Re: How bad is RM now?
I heard the DOM moaning recently that us long-serving employees just need to shut up and realise RM has to change. As if it hasn't been neverending change since the day I started! I've heard 'modernisation' so many times the word has lost all meaning, though I can look in an illustrated dictionary and see a picture of a DO in a once-unthinkable mess. Is that the change we've striven for?In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Posties. No one knows who they were or... what they were doin'
In search of another metaphor: this 500 year old company is like Madonna. Stop trying to be hip and just act your age with some dignity.
The machine stops.

Re: How bad is RM now?
So... All the new starters (last 6 months) (those that are left) now see it as "normal" to take EVERYTHING out (obvs letting managers know that they're at risk of not completing). Many are on hybrids. Managers face 2day... Hi How did you get on? (2/3days mail etc). No probs Boss, "delivered all tracked and as much mail as poss" Boss "how many drops back?" NB " Oh only 300 out of 600 Boss"
Reap what you dow/teach.

The relentless pursuit of change is demended.

Modernisation always means more work, by less people, for less pay

Pretty bad compared to how it was before the strikes and a different world compared to old times by the sound of it.

Any time in the 80s and early 90s were good for me then single deliveries came in, it was never the same since.

True. They change back and forwards. I understand though I am lucky to not have had my start time change by anything more than 30 minutes in years now. I think we had that massive change earlier than a lot of offices which is why I notice it less now.

Re: How bad is RM now?
Right now - it is much better and getting better by the day...
-Rounds are going back to a fair and reasonable size.
-We actually have close to the correct number of posties we should have to cover each round.
-After previously having 2 years of double mail after coming back from my day off - I haven't had double mail for about 6 months.
The concern is - what do these flip-floppers do next. They'll have some other plan or idea that will come to fruition like delivery 2.0 and it will screw everything once again.
