Royal Mail golden girl Laura Orgill who found fame during pandemic sacked by Royal Mail

A postie from Rhondda who found fame on TikTok during the pandemic has been sacked by Royal Mail after taking time off work with mental health issues.

Laura Orgill went viral during the first lockdown gaining more than 860,000 followers for her hilarious videos documenting her postie round in the south Wales valleys.

In an emotional video posted to TikTok on Friday (July 19), the 30-year-old said Royal Mail had sacked her and “marched her off the premises like a criminal”.

Citing a back operation, endometriosis, rugby injuries and mental health problems Laura said her time off work had triggered internal processes that eventually led to her dismissal.

The TikTok star who recently went through a divorce from her wife had been sharing the experience of life after the end of a marriage on social media.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Why are they scumbags for dismissing somebody who appears to have been absent from work for numerous reasons? She knew the sickness policy like the rest of us.

I get the idea She has also been repeatedly warned about breaking the RM social media policy but has continually done it.

Far be it for me to speculate on her circumstances, but with more than 800,000 'followers' perhaps she thought that afforded her protection. As many have found before, people on the internet do not make for comrades in arms. Stalin was right: a million subscribers is a statistic.

Welcome to reality laura.

According to the "Social Media - Guide for employees" I would have to alert my manager to a heck of a lot of posts on here due to the line in the guide about "Let their manager know if they see content on social media that could be harmful to Royal Mail’s business".

Assuming royalmailchat is classed as social media? If so: we're all sailing close to the wind - we just do it anonymously so RM cannot target the individual and hence cannot take any action.

So Laura's "mistake" was to single herself out and hence RM could and did target her? I think we should pause and be a touch supportive - don't jump on the idea that all TikTok users are in it for fame and fortune and hence revel in their demise.

Sounds like she has been through a lot. Yes she triggered stages but if you have a lot going on those events and significance may not have hit home until it all unravelled. Sometimes you may be closer to the person you pity than you think.

It does seem that you can get away with quite a lot in this Company if "Your Face Fits" but if you do "Rock the Boat" it's surprising how competent Managers can sudddenly become when enforcing the Attendance Proceduress ....... to "Manage you out of the Business"...... The same Managers that seem totally Incompetent when it comes to working out a Duties Rota, or Booking the CORRECT ammount of Overtime! :hmmmm

It's ALWAYS a safe bet to watch your back if you upset some of these Managers. :cuppa

Strictly speaking, no. It's a classic Web 1.0 forum. I was on many in the days before 'social media'/Web 2.0 laid waste to them from 2007 onwards. As far as the company is concerned the name of the policy is irrelevant, the rules smell as sweet. It used to be a golden rule online not to use your real name - an entire generation has since grown up in The Matrix being turned into batteries.

I think we're all here violating the gag order in the name of truth, just be prepared to be asked 'Quid est Veritas?'.

I think most of us would know when we're starting to sail close to the wind when it comes to the Stages, I've no idea how many absences you need to have before you face the threat of dismissal but I sense it takes some going to get dismissed.

Some like myself used to be members of a forum called Postman Chat, which closed down, with some members of that joining this forum
