Comparable market sector pay.

Royal mail claims to pay 10% above the market average in our sector. I was just wondering what sector that would be, so I can go about making some comparisons!

I asked my union rep, and he said we were in the Communications Sector... So what roles at other companies would be comparable?

I know that UPS pay around £15 an hour, Mon to Fri, Saturday is voluntary and the pay is even more than during the week.

Once upon a time we used to get time and a half on a Saturday and double on a Sunday. Your making less now than you did 20 years ago.

In real terms with inflation over the past 20 years the minimum wage should be about £15 or even more.

The new contracts are basically on 10% more than minimum wage. Not sure what other companies pay but it’s probably a bit more than minimum.

This is hilarious. They don’t get holiday pay, our pension, our payments for d2d and other legacy payments, have to work sundays and have no job security. Why aren’t you working for these agencies?

It’s not really just about pay though is it.

We are provided with a monumental amount of uniform including footwear. Still waiting for my RM issue pants.

Also, we use a work van which saves our own vehicles.

So we can’t compare ourselves with Evri wages. DPD possibly because of the uniform and the van, but even then we’re not doing the same job, just similar.

UPS, if that is the brown van that screeches around, are too rare a sight to bother with a comparison.

Agency staff do get holiday pay, actually, and most will be enrolled on to a nest pension scheme, as it is a legal requirement now for all employers. -I think you are mistaking agency staff for self employed drivers such as DPD, or Amazon etc.

Personally speaking, I am on a new 35hr contract with Royal Mail. No d2d payments, no legacy payments, and my contract states that I will need to work some Sundays (not that I have yet). My hourly rate is 12.58, which is pretty s**t tbf.

A new start has a take home pay of £500 a week??

It’s actually more than £500 take-home for those on a 40-hour DPR contract - roughly £520 clear pw. £650 pw take-home is easily achievable with a bit of OT.
