Best way to get off driving duties?

get a doctors note,it worked for me,i was a driver for 6 years,but after the resign a few years back i signed into a walk,as i had enough of driving..but after the resign they kept me on driving for another few months until i got a doctors note..with that i was put onto my walk..3 months late.

take it you dont have them at your place then. think they have them every 6 months at our place. dont know how often they're supposed to

It's on the board in the managers office but I won't bring mine in still waiting to be removed from driving

the driving licence check is a legal requirement not just a RM rule so bring that to the attention of your rep, that should get things moving faster

'Getting away with it' implies you think they're doing something wrong, glad you're not in my office. If you're that bothered about it report it, raise a grievance or bring it up with a manager instead of resurrecting YET ANOTHER THREAD FROM OVER 10 YEARS AGO and think of something new to post about.

These are not newbie’s, these are 25 plus year posties, they reckon RM don’t pay them enough to take on the responsibility & demands of driving.

With the shitheap vans we're forced to take out (and yes, given alternatives of "walk 3 miles per bag before it starts but finish 'on time'" or "take out this untested workshop van with 450,000 miles and fossilisation on the roof", it's effectively forced), yeah, I don't think drivers get paid enough to take on the extra risk.

I'm sure you'll come at me with van checks, refusing to drive unroadworthy vans etc, but f***ing really, we both know that is not reality. Even an extra 20p per hour would help people feel more comfortable with the risk of driving, compared to walkers who don't / can't / won't do it.

Look at it another way: "Coaches" get more cash to deal with newbies.

Also yes, I know there used to be allowances for driving etc, but those should only have vanished when it was base skill, and not before, it now means Drivers can do more, get expected to do more for.... nothing more. More risk, no reward.

If a van is unroadworthy and the police pull you over, it's going to be YOU who'll be in the s**t. There's absolutely no excuse for not doing the van checks

Did the need a driving license to get their job?
Did they even have a driving license when they applied and were offered the job?

I applied for the job of Post person with cycling

Long after I start at RM, at my own cost and in my own time I eventually got around to learning, passing my test and getting a vehicle to suit my needs and my needs only.

It's entirely up to me what skills beyond those I was employed for, offer up to the company to use and abuse.
Same goes for everyone else.

No-one who doesn't or no longer drives for the company owes anyone else an explanation as to why.

I'm quite happy plodding on at walking pace waiting to see if the company does full 360⁰ and brings back bikes in some form
