Christmas Pressure

Sorry to bring up the 'C' word in July but interested to know if any other offices have been told RM are moving Christmas Pressure forward one week further into November. Our leave was all sorted and approved weeks ago but last week managers were coming round saying to the people who had booked the last available November slot that they were not honouring it and we'd have to pick again. I pity those who may have booked that week and have made arrangements for it. Totally out of order. CWU are on it.

I heard that this morning too. Though sounded like there was some leeway if you had something booked.

I believe officially Christmas pressure is still just the three weeks in December as far as Ofcom is concerned, though for a good decade now it's been mayhem as soon as Halloween is over and management have made past attempts to have the second half of November blocked off to annual leave. Therefore, it would appear to be pre-emptive arse-covering for anticipated failures in November that Ofcom will not overlook.

This is the sort of situation where people need to grow a pair & put their foot down. Just say “ nope, I’m not changing my leave, I booked that week for a reason and I’m taking it”. Whatever you do don’t put it in the hands of your rep or wait for the union and RM to come to some sort of agreement, be proactive and stand your ground, its your leave that you picked in good faith and in many cases you probably picked those weeks for a reason. No union rep or official will be that bothered about ensuring you keep it unless of course they happen to be off that week.

No other company f***s their staff around like RM do with their hours and now they’re doing it with your leave!!

Black Friday Fortnight was when it all fell apart at ours, Christmas was a doddle by comparison.

29th November is BF this year so they’re covering that.

100%. Just keep reminding the manager you won’t be in that week. It’s criminal what’s going on but it’s no good relying on the useless union. We have to act smarter.

I have that week booked no-one has said anything yet. I will be keeping that week as is. You can't pick a bloody day off never mind a week.
