Rumour - mon wed fri 2nd class now

Post by qwerty2 »

Is this true that RM have started this week only delivering 2nd class mail Mon Wed Fri?
They’ve just done this without approval from Ofcom or the Government!!
Have the union agreed to this? Or are they still asleep?

If they do this, I hope we’re all prepared to report them to OFCOM, Darren Jones MP, anonymously to the press, etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, what punishment will they give RM?

They don’t care what the union think either, having sai£ that senior officials from both sides are interchangeable these days anyway , two cheeks of the same arse.

Not at ours, everyone was told to take all mail out regardless of whether you were going to complete.

Surely it's a mail centre thing. You wouldn't pull around it. They just wouldn't send it out on certain days

2C received overnight for the mech gets extracted and then sorted to batches for sequencing the following night. For manual 1C and 2C get sorted together. It's not viable to just sort 1C, there's not enough of it. If they had us running the 2C through the mech every other day, we'd send the 1C mech as manual every other day as it wouldn't be worth running the machines

So for this nonsense to happen, the whole lot would continue to arrive at DOs and we’d have to filter out 1c leaving 2c sitting there. Doesn’t wilful delay apply to 2c? How would they keep track of the day it had to be delivered?

Whatever happened to just delivering the mail? Our old DOM used to say, ‘If it crosses the threshold, it has to be delivered.’

Whatever happened to that quaint notion 🙄

Sounds like they could just send it manual every other day then no? Be a few letters, save on some sorting at mail centre every other day and less overall prep time at frames over the week probably..

Maybe? But who's got the time or inclination in the morning to filter it? So I would now not only have to read the address, but also determine the class of mail? So if I don't see some kind of "1" or "1st" on the stamp/franked mail/something in the top corner I dump it to one side - preserving the ordering if it's walk sequenced? No thanks. Quicker just to put it into the frame.

It's not always obvious what is first and what is not (top, middle, and bottom are obvious, the others are not)...

Exactly. I can’t see how this will be anything other than a time draining faff.
