Problem is we're not told the time of the slot it just works on when the regular postie is passing, so if you do the round differently or just do the Tracked you can turn up outside the window.

Does the customer get to choose the two hour slot. Or do they just get given a time when you send the manifest to cloud? If it's the latter I'll just put a later time in. I use an HCT so I am not redirecting to the end of my delivery to pick up a parcel and go back again.

When you purchase the postage online it gives you the estimated timeslot, presumably based on when the postie usually hits that address

In a properly functioning market, yes. Instead it is offered severly discounted (here to the point of being free) in order to undercut the competition to build market share (see Amazon). Once all the customers are hooked, your competition out of business, and market share is sufficiently fattened; then the slaughter begins by jacking the price up (see Amazon). It's only a question of who can sustain the losses for long enough to emerge triumphant.

I don't remember seeing any of this in The Wealth of Nations.

I wonder if it's been revised recently to take into consideration our later starts? Plus what's the point in entering the time we'll start the delivery if the customer is already told when we should be expected to turn up?

I had a complaint about this the other week from a customer. The guy covering my duty for some reason does the delivery backwards from how I do it so he got the customers address 4 hours later than I did. I didn’t realise there was a time slot until I got a compliant.

Its not a timeslot. They are given an estimated "time range" but its not guaranteed. Says it when they book it.

It was narrowed from 4 hours to 3 hours the last time i checked. Its based on the time the postie usually gets there. The "estimated timeslot" is based on the time postie delivers to the address on that day over the last few weeks.

I've just checked by going through the process to book a collection from my address, can confirm it's a 3 hour estimated time slot, unfortunately the slot begins10 minutes before the part timer on the van share duty starts work.

Had a customer who had a time slot of 8.30 to 11.30 ,we dont get out of the office until 09.30 to 10.30 depending on mail volumes and staffing levels LOL

You're invoking the line 'it takes no extra time' (as applied to lapsing, COLOD, deliver to neighbour, PC, etc etc) while I'm saying there's no such thing as a free lunch. Someone correct me, but Parcel Collect wasn't free initially was it? Or at least the rolling 100% discount creates the impression that there should be a charge.

If you charge extra on top of the postage, it will dissuade people from using the service entirely. They will simply drop it into a Post Office when passing, and we lose money via the cut the PO takes from posting this way. It is a way to build up loyalty and establish a user base that you can then eventually start charging. This sounds like a far better case of RM abusing its market position for Ofcom to investigate than that Whistl BS.
