Change in times....

-It's worse as the traffic is much busier coming into work.

Generally....

I like the job for many reasons, but hate the job for many reasons....

-Management are bullies and clueless.

-Job is absolutely tiring and not good on your body in the long run.


A manageable workload / a more flexible way of working would/could fix those 2 issues.

So far we've been lucky with the weather, if the recent heatwave had lasted more than a couple of days, then it would have been draining delivering post in the heat of the mid afternoon.

Post also seems to have been light, winter might be a lot tougher in that regard.

With my particular circumstances right now, the new times are maybe better. Two young kids not yet in school. I can now do the drop off in the morning, while also giving the dog a better walk and a sit down breakfast.

Finishing later though has prompted us to look for a different nursery, which suits the timings better. My mother used to pick a kid up from nursery at lunch, we would pay for only half a day and the kid would still be napping by the time I got home. The new place we have from August coming is a tad cheaper, so will be doing a full day to save granny the work. Though now she has to let the dog out.

I'm also no longer working late.

The change is costing me money, in over time and nursery fees(half day > full day). But it works. For now. Once the kids hit primary school, the P1 here kicks them out at like 2pm so I will be buggered. I'm thinking I'll try and get a job as a Dinner Lady Dude.

Traffic is less of an issue. I get paid when I'm sat in the van, and I cycle for the commute.

The complete opposite of me. Not exactly loving the job right now but later start times are great.
In the past I used to do an 11am to 7pm Monday to Friday PHG shift which suited me fine. I'm not an early morning person. I'm old enough to remember 5am starts. God knows how I lasted but then I was in my 20s so would often survive on little or no sleep, especially on a Friday night into Saturday morning. Some of my colleagues would still be out of their nuts on whatever substances they'd taken the night before. Happy days.
Now I'm rapidly approaching 100 (it feels like) I can't physically do that, and I like to go out to pubs / restaurants / gigs midweek so don't wanna have to be in bed by 9 or 10pm.

Everyone has been moaning about the weather this summer but this is exactly why I've been relatively content despite being intensely pissed off with the changed times.

I want my noon finishes back and I do not care to be told why that can't be.

what is a PHG shift

PHG = Postman/woman Higher Grade. It used to be a thing for indoor jobs at Delivery Offices. Things like the bookroom, Special Delivery / key cage, callers office etc.
I can't remember how much extra the pay was - not a lot but it all helps.
