We are told if you think you cannot make the 1 o'clock scan inaccessible & deliver before you cut off.
What's the point of trying to cheat the system as the customer will still be entitled to compensation if they claim, and Customer Services will then have to try and explain why the customer was told their property was inaccessible when it clearly was, surely it's better just to deliver it late and apologise for the late delivery?
As pointed out above, the customer can only get compensation if not delivered within 24 hours
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

They can get a refund which is probably enough compensation for most customers, I've no idea if RM also pays out additional compensation if we've clearly lied to justify the late deliver, rather than just apologising for it's late deliver.

If they've paid the extra then they can get consequential loss up to £10,000 if it's not delivered on time. It's an expensive option though and I doubt many people take it up. A 9am Special with £10,000 consequential loss cover starts at £40, a 1pm Special is £19 and that's only up to 100 grammes.

I doubt many take up the option anyway? I had one solicitor tell me several house purchases were held up as we didn't collect their Specials one afternoon, which could have made any interesting claim if true and they'd paid the extra.

What does 'consequential loss cover' actually mean in real terms of compensation if it's lost by RM?
It means 'if my letter doesn't get there by 1pm I'm going to incur a £5,000 loss and I'm paying you extra to make sure it does get there in time'.
You'll obviously have to prove the loss.
House sales have been mentioned above, off the top of my head I can't think of many more examples, especially these days with email etc.
Only customer services will know how many claims of £X thousand are made each year but I can't see it being a big issue, although a couple of months ago, before the later start times, we got a poster in our office reminding us that 9am Specials have to be delivered before 9.30. Makes me wonder if someone put in a big claim.
Until then we were getting 9am's with our normal specials to be delivered whenever but now they're sent out early with someone - as they should be, especially as some of us don't clock in until 09.10.

9am specials are a fraud . I get any when I leave the office at 10.30 . It's up to me to face the fury of the customer.
Why?

Exactly, why isn't the manager getting asked to explain why this is happening, surely it gets flagged up, we recently had a guy turn up at the do asking for his 9am special, it was his passport for a flight that day which he would have missed if we only delivered it when we could be arsed.

9am specials still have to be attempted by 9.30 at our DO but 1pm ones get some leeway.

9am Specials and now 10am in our office.
1pm are still 1pm unless you are doing Packets on 2 rural deliveries ( which we have to do alot in our office as can't keep any new staff)
Our new manager has told us to Scan any specials we cant get to as " inaccessible " then deliver when we get there.
Purely because with the new start times we can't get all the tracked and Specials done on the 1st round and get over to the 2nd round in time.

9ams are try your best for 10am or 1030am but must be attempted by 1300. There is an official letter / poster that states this.

We had a dedicated guy pulled off prep to do 9ams if any. Out by 8:15-8:30 to ensure the 9am time. Now the specials dont get to us until 8:45. Takes about 15min to scan them all in & the total never matches the manifest. 9ams are now given to postie to get done for 1300.

But they still charge the extra, it’s criminal.

I doubt this is company policy just a maverick manager making up their own rules. I could never understand why each DO doesn't have a specific postie to do the 9am'ers given we get them virtually every day.
