If I leave what happens to my shares ?

Hi folks thinking of retiring in a couple of months, I have been purchasing the max shares through my wages since the scheme began and still have the free shares the question is what happens if I leave , do I have to sell them ?
I’ve also had the letter to sell my shares to the group that are buying us. Let’s say I agree to them having them and leave before the possible buyout what happens to the shares ? Do I have to sell still or are they locked in ? Totally confused by this tbh , I really want to leave but if I’m able to not pay tax on the sale of my shares would be a great help. Shareholders dont vote on it till September
If they vote for it the government can still stop it

When you leave they send you a letter with the options listed.

I got the letter a few weeks ago. You won't lose them but can either transfer them to another share account or cash them in.
